Hellcow
Thanks TGP! I figured out how I missed the previous thread - I must have minimized the header for this part of the board at some point and was seeing nothing about CAV, Warlord or even this RAGE thing. Ooops. Now I've got lots of stuff to read over! Does anyone know if it is OK if I print out the CAV 2.0 rules for myself and some friends to look over? I would assume so since its not like I'd be selling them or anything. And also - when do the Bones versions of CAV units come out?
Chrome
No official word on Bones CAVs. The CAV 2 rules are available for free from Reaper's site. http://www.reapermini.com/Games/CAV The two CAV 2 expansion/scenario books are available for free from http://www.mil-net.net
fishnjeeps
I happen to have a printed version of the CAV rules but I haven't a clue which set it is. I bought it almost 10 years ago so I'd guess it's CAV 1. I have never played it and still don't own any CAV minis. I used to play BT and found playing with large numbers of mechs was fun. I remember playing a game with 200 mechs per side on a gym floor. It took 2 days to finish playing but man was it awesome! Wish I still had pics of that game...
Nanite
The only printed CAV rulebooks were for CAV 1. The core book, and two Journals of Recognition. CAV 2 and related materials were only released digitally.
Moderator Chaoswolf Posted February 7, 2014 Moderator Share Posted February 7, 2014 (edited) Are you asking about game mechanics or fluff? Both. Also, is there any customisability to the various units? Forex can you swap around weapon packages and so forth? I'm not looking for any of the somewhat broken things you could do with the Battletech building rules, just something to add an element of surprise; even though I'm using CAV 'X' you can't be sure what the armament and capabilities are. edit---spelling. again. it seems that I have especially fat fingers today... Colonel Kane
I will say this CAV1 and CAV:SO has a construction system.
Chrome
I will say this CAV1 and CAV:SO has a construction system. Neither of which were/are legal for tournament/official play. CAV 1 had tournament-legal rules that allowed you to modify your CAV (or gunship, tank, etc) with different weapons, ECM, motors, etc, but that came with a cost padded on top of the new equipment, so hardly anyone used it. But the build-your own construction rules were strictly for fun. CAVBoss stated somewhere that the CAV3 construction rules weren't for official use either. Your opinion will obviously vary, but IMO the whole reason why BT's system is so popular is b/c you can build/mod whatever you like and use it at any game. Reaper User CAVBOSS Posted February 7, 2014 Reaper User Share Posted February 7, 2014 While the construction modified models are not legal for play in a tourney setting, they can be used in any other game. Unless BT has changed their format, mods were not allowed in tourney play either.
Girot
To be honest I never really cared for Battletech models.
madcat
To be honest I never really cared for Battletech models. All of them??? UnfaIr! Some BT models are really nice. I'm rather rather partial to most of the the original 3025 and Clan era 'Mechs myself (yes 3025 and 3050 [that's back when being an 'OmniMech' actually seemed to mean something!]) but I hate the weird Anime influenced models often produced now or models with just bits stuck on for no apparent purpose than to try and make them look different. I've always liked CAV's because 99% of the time they are pretty much of the 'Form follows Function' model - and frankly, If you've got a whacking great gun - FLAUNT IT! - alas I can't say the same for a very significant number of BT models now and unfortunately a few of the designs carried over to CAV:SO from Jon's previous line (Sorry Jon, - just the way it is - I do like many of those that came over however - Concussion, VooDoo,and Nightshade to name but three - Spitifire and particularly the Hawk....are Transformers so won't EVER be in my collection!) I like the new stuff we're seeing pictures of now and want to see more so Jon.... I'm interested in spending money...Continue... Just my two-penny worth and stirring the pot!
papabees
I've found that I typically like asymmetrical stompy robots best. While me beating you down with my mechs' fists is fun the premise is pretty silly.

I know people have different tastes. There are a couple of the RL ones Im not that crazy about, but they do appeal to some people. I saw no need to waste models and moved them over so people could keep buying them that wanted them. The new stuff we are building will stay for the most part to the current CAV "design".

Moezilla
Yea, construction in BT is very popular but one of my biggest turnoffs to it as it ends up being munchkin games always, aside from the rules lawyering that also kills the fun of it and I found to be rampant in my experiences with BT. That's where CAV2 had it light years over BT, it was fast and fun and you fought what ya brung, just like on a battlefield. It should be about tactics, not min/maxing your designs. I wouldn't have a problem with limited changes that made sense, like swapping out a different gun or ammo rack etc but the building design thing opens a whole other nightmare that creates headaches for everyone IMO. I need to break out CAV2 and meet up with MadPat and play soon. lol I will say this CAV1 and CAV:SO has a construction system. Neither of which were/are legal for tournament/official play.
