buglips*the*goblin
it's going to be down to the wire, i think.... It's shaping up that way, and it's all because of the vertebrae. There's just... so... many... And they're a ton of work to do over brown. Once that's done the parts that make them so difficult (all those pits, nooks, and crannies) should actually make the next stage easier. But they're still not finished, and I'm still tackling them, and I'm looking at all the layering left to do and seriously starting to question if Kal-Kan can make it. And there isn't really any way to speed this up, because I have to wait for each layer of brown to dry before I can add the next. So my plan, such as it is, is now to use the next 7 hours (at which point we enter the final day) to finish the brown and, if I can, to bring both wings and the body up to the first highlight after the bone shadow base and do the dark elf skin highlights. If I can do that, I think tomorrow will be a succession of knocked-out bits. I expect the layering might be a timeburgler, so with that still remaining my concern is growing. But all those vertebrae... man. I've seen more spine than a chiropractor.

Hazor
Absent a hair dryer, a plain old fan blowing air over it should hasten the drying.
Edsterdoom
Looking good so far. Really impressed with the colour.
buglips*the*goblin
Absent a hair dryer, a plain old fan blowing air over it should hasten the drying. Not enough to matter. The reason drying is such a problem is that it has to be dry enough so that when I do the next layer I don't pull up any of the underlying layer. And that takes a fair bit of time. But! His other wing is now ready: And his bazillion-vertebrae tail is just about there: Which is good, because you're all probably as sick of this part as I am. I want to get to the fun stuff!
Foxfire
Do you use paint thinner or slow dryer or whatever it is? I'm surprised it's still wet by the time you get from the neck down to the end of the tail. I know where I live it'd be dry after about 5 vertebrae. It makes it really hard for me to do damp layering ;p
buglips*the*goblin
Do you use paint thinner or slow dryer or whatever it is? I'm surprised it's still wet by the time you get from the neck down to the end of the tail. I know where I live it'd be dry after about 5 vertebrae. It makes it really hard for me to do damp layering ;p It's the Coat D'Arms undercoat of black, it's semi-gloss and slick. If I had my time back, or enough sense to begin with, I'd have spritzed all those bits with dullcote before drybrushing the brown. Probably would have saved a bunch of hours. But the black, while it had the advantage of covering in one coat, prolongs the drying time of the first few bone shadow layers. After about midway, it goes pretty fast because there's enough matte brown built up to catch the next layer easily. Edit to add: And the reason I didn't do the dullcote trick after realizing it was because altering the surface might alter the finish of the succeeding bits. While it would have saved me time, I didn't want to run the risk of having half of Kaladrax not match the other half. buglips*the*goblin
Body highlights are now done up all the way except for the final white. The body is now ready to have its innards completed and layered.
