Photo Help

For now I have to rely on my outdated Olympus 1.3 megapixel camera to get by till i can save for a newer camera. Any suggestions on how to get some better quaility pics out of it? I can't seem to get a good clear picture. If there are some tweaks I can try, that would be excellent. I've painted a few more Reaper minis, but I'm not sure if I will post them till I can take a decent picture. Thanks in advance for any help.

I am not familiar with your camera. However there are some things you can try.

White Balance: If you have this option on your camera make sure to set it against a white object or background. I take a photo of a piece of white paper first and ensure that I have a good white image before I move on to taking images of my minis. On older cameras the white balance was only a few settings, Tungsten, Flourescent and Daylight. If that is all you have make sure to set it to the light you are using.

Quality: This is usually "Good, Better, Best" or something like 800X600 or higher. Set this to your best setting, this will give you more pixels per inch so you can start editing with a bigger image with more pixels to begin with. Its easier to remove pixels that put them back in in your photo editor.

Apeture: I am still playing with this one myself. If you have a wider apeture more light is allowed in, this affects how well the camera focuses in on the subject (a little fuzzy on this one still)

Shutter Speed: This works in conjuction with Apeture. The faster the shutter speed the less light that enters the camera, darker images result.

If you have the ability use the last two to increase the sharpness and brightness of your images.

I think I've mentioned this before.... anyway, before I bought my 2.1 megapixel Olympus I tried the 1.3 version, and I found it really difficult to get sharp mini pics with. IIRC the macro mode is 20cm which means that you can't place the mini very close to the camera. With the low resolution, it makes it really hard to get sharp pics (unless they are tiny).

I really don't know what you can do, except making sure that you have enough light and that you hold the camera completely still......

Yup, a stand if you have one removes any shake blur.

The highest res possible, then on your computer you reduce the image size, this will give nice high res pics.

And focus, try finding the best focal length and then go from there. I'm using a 1.6 meg pixel camera, and most of the shot's come out quite nice. :poke:
