Had a great day painting with some locals and Cash Wiley.

 

Cash finished work on his Anval.

 

I worked on Dr. Doom Golem and Colossus Golem.

 

We also got some people in and work was done on a Bones Minotaur, Bones Elven Archer and Bones Ghast.

 

I'll add pictures in a few.

 

Thanks to all who came. Especially Cash who had to travel the farthest.

BTW, the video is prolly pretty boring for the most part but ...

 

Cash plays a musical instrument in it. We talk about some smaller points of interest over the course of it. Reply to my daughter's texts. And plenty laughing at ourselves as we hear what we said on delayed playback from across the office. Heh.

 

Next time I will bring in my laptop as the poor computer that camera is attached to is awful but it works for our conference room to display websites, etc.

 

Maybe we can get some more people down to take part in our Paint Day.

The last minute caught the first minute of my dulcimer solo with some awesome traditional turkish vocals.

 

I want to reiterate how much fun that was. I also hope a few more Reaper folks can make it. He's not too far off the Thruway. Rochester is about 2/3 closer than I am, Buffalo only slightly further away. If we set it up for every other month, hopefully that will allow for scheduling. It would be a nice gap-filler for those of us who live between the Great Lakes stuff and the New England stuff.

 

Also want to note that elf and mino represent their first painted minis! Such a great job! Though the girl who did the mino paints ceramics, another ringer!

Wet Palette

 

I had a chance to talk to Cash while he setup his wet palette for the work that day.

 

He explained what he did for his and so I made my own Sunday.

 

I recently bought a cellphone case for my Samsung Galaxy Note II ... it a big 'un ... and the case came in a display box. The plastic cover is 4.25" x 6.5" and clear. The back has a groove to receive the cover and fit snuggly if not tightly.

 

So the cover becomes the Wet Palette and the back becomes the Palette Cover.

So far so good. The paint was still good last night though I added some more water to the paper towels.

Yay! If the seal isn't tight enough for you, you can still slap some saran wrap over it and then put the lid on after. Glad you like it!

So far so good. It's not nearly as big as your plate but when I got the case it was the first thing I thought of to use it for.

I used a much smaller one (sandwich case size) for most of the time I've been painting. As I got into more gradient blending, where I needed to lay out seven or more pools of paint at a time for each section, I ran out of space too quick. You'll know when it's time to consider an upgrade :)

Looks great!. I really need to give the wet pallette a shot. I picked up one a while ago but never used it before my last deployment. When I finally got back and went to try it out, it had mysteriously grown legs and wandered off (or, more likely my wife committed a "neatness"). Still haven't found the dang thing. I'm going to tear the house apart one final time and then will finally admit defeat and build my own.

Speaking of wet pallettes, I made my own a few weeks ago and though I'd pass it along. I picked up around 8 store-brand plastic containers at Target for $4 for the set. Half of them were the "sandwich keeper" type. Using one of them I put my damp paper towel in the bottom, a piece of parchment paper from my pantry over it (after having gotten it damp), and then put my paint on the paper. I keep it sealed when I'm not using it and after a couple of weeks the paint is still usable. It's pretty nice to have when I have to mix a color that I only need a dab or two of. The whole thing cost me about 50 cents.

This. I had this happen today. Darned fancy vampires and their 20 yards of cloak....

 

Time to go shopping for a larger container. It's for my work so I need something good and seal-able and that I can still tuck away out of sight...

I used the palette again last night with no change in paints laid on it. Just a quick stir and back to work.

 

Way better than cleaning out the 10 cup plastic palettes every time of dried acrylic.

 

I will prolly clean it tonight as I've reached some capacity with the differing colors.
