Looking good. You need to go much lighter on the lining around the eyes. Finer tip, lighter hand, try it in brown rather than black for a softer effect.

As you have experienced and as Inarah mentioned the lining around eyes needs to be much finer. The issue is if you don't line the eyes they kind of merge into the face and you tend to get that pop-eyed look. I have found that the easiest thing for me to do is to paint the entire eyeball the color I want the lining to be. Rarely black, sometimes walnut brown, sometimes blackened brown (one of my favorite colors). Once that has dried then add your white (I usually use linen white rather than pure white) for the eye and leave a thin line around it. Its easier than trying to paint the thin line. Then you can add in the Iris.

The other thing you can do for eyes is try the Bette Davis Eyes method. I use it for the eyes on my minis and get pretty good results (for a newbie), I'm sure that everyone does something a little different though and there are some really amazing artists/painters on this forum who give great advice on their techniques. Everyone says to try out a few different ways of doing something and find what works for you.

Some great looking minis here. I particularly like the reduced palette on the Drow. You've made it quite stylistic.

There's a few mould lines that it's a shame you didn't tidy up, particularly across the barkeep's arms.

I like the bold colours on your orcs. I think you could even go a shade lighter on the highlights of the blue armour. I'm not a big fan of NMM, but I think you've done it very well, particularly on the sword.

Thanks James, I agree with everything youve said. I am poor and taken off mould lines and plan to work on it.

Lots of good work here, but I'd like to especially mention that I like the red lining on the coffin and I'm stealing that idea when I get to dungeon dressing!

I love that gremlin goblin. Oooooh...someone should add a Mogwai to their game that sneaks into the camp and cuddles with the players at night, and then steals some food when they've fallen asleep and they wake up to FIRE GREMLIN WHAT DONE STOLE THEIR DAGGER. I feel like I may have had too much coffee today.

I painted most of these figures quickly or experiment when I did so. The exception is the reaper figure. I didn't really paint his face with too much detail, you can't see it due to the hat and what I did paint is sufficient (white eyes, basic colour variation on skin).

      Duelists
They look better in person (I swear, the light makes the skin look washed out more than it is, plus the hair has darker shadows.)

The dire crocodile, dire boar, and dire crab were one of the Bones 4 addons, and it doesn't look like they've hit retail just yet. Which is a shame, because we need more giant crabs.

The mud on the dire crocodile's base is just some water effect goo dribbled on that half of the base. The barnacles attached to the rocks on the dire crab's base were sculpted with green stuff. The rocks... those are just rocks.

I'm looking for something to stick Bones, specifically Ma'al Drakar's terrain, to a wooden base. It's not thick enough, at the area I want to place it, to pin effectively.

What kind of adhesives would work? I'm thinking epoxy, maybe? I just /really/ don't want to melt it accidentally and have to buy a new one.

This is my first mini painting, just finished it tonight. I have a lot to learn, especially the correct way to dry brush. But I followed a Reaper paint kit on the steps for their minis and this is what I came up with.

Once I get the hang of the minis themselves I'd like to learn to make custom bases, this one just looks awful as is.

For some reason I can't get the picture to show the color true either, it's a much more grayish blue than this bright color that is shown.

All in all, I'm pleased with its turn out.

I just like the way the blue/black wings look.  - I did the same with the Librarian Sophie. (last month)
I really need to paint up one of the metal versions for contrast.
I'm not sure what she is serving - Meat, bread and salad is the way I painted it, but that could be cake instead.
