Since Inarah started a beauty pageant for Lysette I thought it would she would be a good break from the current creatures and monsters I have been painting up lately.

I will try to post the steps I paint while painting her up here. I took a page from Buglips's or Buglips' (not sure which is right) book and have been trying to paint up my bones as quick paint jobs which I do not spend too much time on. It has made the bones fun minis that I will pick up wash with soap and paint in one sitting. This has been allowing me to paint more than usual and since they are for gaming purposes no need to worry about mold lines and such at least too much. Thank you Buglips for your inspiration with the bones line.

Anyhow I haven't yet painted a bones humanoid only creatures and the like. I always tend to take more time on people especially females so my goal here is to spend less time while still making her pretty for the Beauty Pageant. I will not accomplish this in one paint session so to keep me moving on her I created this WIP.

Last night I dug her out and took care of the glaring mold lines (missing quite a few I may add), then she was cleaned with some soap and water . Here she is cleaned and ready to paint.

Tonight I painted up her flesh overall I spent an hour painting. This included taking the time to paint a face on a prepainted mini for a friend, I figured save paint and only have to mix up the colors once. I took a few photos to show the steps I took. Sorry I did not setup a light box just used my ott light on my desk.

This picture is simply her skin base coated with Tanned Highlight. It took me about 3 coats to get good coverage on her.

I noticed some unevenness on her face while painting and took some brush on sealer to her to try to even it out, but I don't know how much it helped at this point. So I just kept moving on with her hopefully after more is painted it won't be as noticeable.

For the next steps I took my Tanned Highlight mixing it with my Tanned Shadow for her shading, then I added fair skin to Tanned Highlight to bring up some highlights. I lined her lips with Chestnut brown and while I had it in my palette thought it would also work to line her skin.

The next step was a quick one I simply used Brown liner to begin the work on her eyes.

Then I used Polished bone for the white of her eyes added a pupil with brown liner once again. I considered adding a touch of color to her eye at this step but decided that it may cause me to mess up her eyes and since it will be a gaming figure that it was an unnecessary step. So I just opted to add the pure white highlight spot and call her eyes finished.

The last thing I did with her tonight was take my flesh wash to add a little ruddiness to her cheeks and deeper shadows. Once it dried I decided it may be a bit harsh so when I pick her up next I may consider fixing it. I may paint her hair and eyebrows and see if it distracts enough from her face prior to trying to fix it. Oh and I painted a highlight spot on her lips.

Now on to planning on what colors to paint the rest of her. I was thinking of giving her a purple dress and red hair. But since I won't be able to get back to put anymore paint on her for a day or two that may change depending on my mood then. If anyone really wants to see her painted up with a certain color I could be swayed.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. I didn't expect to be home early enough to paint today, but I managed to squeeze another hour in this evening. I worked on her hair and while waiting to dry put some purple on her dress, but I fear I thinned the paint too much for a bones mini and her dress is very splotchy . I expect a few more layers will help this but that will come later. Tonight I just focused on her hair. Her hair was painted only using Reaper's Red Hair Triad. Sometimes I will go darker than Auburn Red but for her I kept it to the three paints in the triad.

Here is simply a few coats of Reaper's Auburn Shadow. And the purple is Reaper's Violet Light.

I blocked in a few broad highlights of Carrot top red.

Then I worked on bringing up the highlights to Highlight Orange with a number of layers to what you see here.

I love the way the hair is turning out. I am planning to use the red hair triad on a couple of figures, but for some reason in the past in I get to the carrot top red and highlight orange stages, it has gone sideways for me.

I like painting red hair and the triad is an easy place to start. However the highlight orange can go chalky or can be too overpowering if applied too thick. Be Careful to thin your paint and apply it in multiple layers. I did not do it with this mini, bit I'll often grab my clear red and apply a glaze to the higher points of red to help tone the triad down and blend the colors more smoothly, then mix the clear red with the auburn shadow and a tiny drop of volcano brown and use that to glaze the shadows. A nice thing about hair is there are so many shades of it so if you don't like the highlight orange paint start darker and only go to carrot top red as your final highlight.

It's generally when I thin the two highlight shades especially the highlight orange that things go bad for me and I am planning to use this triad on one of my current figures.
