STONEHAVEN GNOMES

Project 1

Page 2

I've been busy and am just now getting 'round to getting this posted. She's done and I'm quite pleased with her.

I did all the final highlighting on her and also added a little ornamental tree in the background. I made it from a dried flower stalk from one of my lavender bushes. I also added another flower clump in the back to soften that up a bit.

I've also completed the Druid and the Paladin and will get them posted when I have time.

Fantastic job with this mini Anne, love everything about her. Keep up the amazing work!

Thank you!

Anne...just adorable...the addition of the delicate single stem tree/stalk is a masterful touch. You should be pleased...this piece is both " fantastic and exquisite "!...Looking forward to seeing the Druid & Paladin...Paul.

It was one of those happy accidents when I was scouring the yard looking for just the right thing and there it was...a few dried flower stalks I'd forgotten to cut back. I'll have the other two up this weekend I hope.

I love her!!!! She came out so perfect and glowing, and that little flower stalk was exactly the right touch this piece needed! The second flower clump also balances out the back nicely.

I just can't say enough about your work, it just sings to me!

Huzzah!

Thank you so much. These gnomes are so cute and they paint up pretty easy considering their diminutive size.

Before you say anything, the spear he's carrying should be bone and not metal. I don't game so I didn't even think about it until it was too late. I used Play-Doh to make the base. I just shaped a mound, covered it in ballast and glued some rocks into the back. It's quick, easy and super cheap.

I used Reaper Rust Red for his tunic and leggings. I really liked the colour and will use it more often. There could have been more depth of colour here and more highlighting. But my painting table is crowded so I'm calling it done. For his hair I used Reaper Dark Elf Triad and used Reaper Lilac mixed with white for the final highlights.

Not perfect, but all in all, I'm okay with it.

Love the priestess; lavender is just about the spiffiest plant ever, from an appearance standpoint...looks great!

The druid...so what about the bone? Real druids didn't eschew metal for their tools. And your spearhead looks pretty darn good, Plus you did a spectacular job on all the flora on the base; he clearly appreciates a lush landscape. I'm pretty impressed with the color cohesion between the basework and the mini itself; you've got a bunch of colors in all those plants, and none of it seems loud or otherwise interferes with the mini. Nice work.

A couple of people told me that because he's a Druid, according to D&D lore, he won't use metal. This is where I have trouble-I don't game.

I'm really just getting into doing more with basing and haven't gotten into any of the theory yet. Right now, I just put things together and hope they magically work. But these guys lend themselves real well to doing more in the basing department. The one thing I don't like is those teeny tiny bases they sent us. So I've put mine on 30mm bases.

Not to mention it would have looked really cool in glistening bone white.

It would have looked a lot cooler I know. I was stuck in the mindset "It's a weapon, it has a blade, it's metal"

Hey, I just sent you an email. This reminds me of when we first started blogging together. Talking in two places at the same time :;):

No, it's true that D&D druids don't use metal*...but I don't care so much about it. Paint what you like. If you're not painting for a specific character, and you're not trying to appeal to the mainstream for the sake of selling the piece, then paint what you like.

Paint what you like. (everything I say three times is true...)

Anyway, yes, it would look cool as bone, or stone, or wood. But I also think it looks good like this.

*I don't play 4th ed, and my memory on 2E druids is hazy, but in 3E, they actually aren't restricted from using metal weapons. Only metal armor is barred to them. And since Pathfinder is based off the original D20 SRD, I bet it's the same (but I could be wrong). So by my estimation, a metal spearhead isn't against the rules of at least one major, commonly played version of D&D. So don't sweat it.

That's just my split personality at work. I should go post something on your blog now too!

I saw it! I just sent you another email and I commented on your blog too. Tag-you're it!

Now say this three times "You will become wealthy beyond your wildest dreams" Momma needs a new set of paints :)

I'll tell you what, I stink at weapons. I tend to give them short shrift because they're not what interests me and I have to look at them as part of the sculpt rather than something that's there to annoy me. I do wish I'd painted that bone though, it would have popped so much better.

I've gotten the pics of the Druid done, just need to edit them and I'll post them.
