The good, the bad and the Fugly

I have this one, and she's even painted. ::D:

She represents a character from probably the longest running campaign I was ever involved with and is painted in blue & yellow to match the uniform of the mercenary guild she belonged to - The Order of the Lion Blades. I should try to find her...

Well Matrissa this is an open thread post it! I am showing my old minis in the hopes others would join in
Unfortunately, I've misplaced one of the small boxes I kept my miniatures in and it happens to be the one that had almost all of the PC figures that I had painted in it! I've been looking for it on and off for, oh, probably a year now.

I think I might know where she is though, as I kept her separate from the "general riff-raff" that I used to represent NPCs....

I found her!

She was painted using Testors enamels and given a gloss coat, but she was also used regularly to game with, so you can see there has been a significant amount of "wear and tear" - there were silver spots painted on her armour because she was supposed to be wearing studded leather.

Must have been a pain to paint with those enamels. She looks good though considering she has been through a lot

No, not really that much of a pain, it was just what we painted with "back then". Yes, we had to thin our enamel paints using turpentine instead of water, and clean up could definitely be a big deal, but the depth of colour that enamel paints give you - especially, for colours that tend to be "chalky" in acrylic (whites, yellows, some oranges) - was awesome.

Glad you think she still looks pretty good. I'm almost tempted to strip her and start anew, but there's so much history behind her that I think it's probably best to leave her as she is. ^_^

No idea what company these guys came from

I forget who actually made them, but the one on the left is an elf from the Chronopia figure range. Prince August miniatures has the molds for them now.

This is such a cool thread. I have/had A LOT of these same figures. I really need to try and figure out which ones survived the 10 or so moves since I was a kid.

Edit--well, that didn't work out like I'd intended. The figure I'm referring to is the in post #101, wearing the silver and green heavy armor.

Ii wondered what happen to those casts..I started this to not only show off the stuff I have done but to give others a trip down memory lane and to let them post pics of what they have done. We all have had that one figure we missed out of and forgot all about it. Maybe this will jogs some memories.

So, here's an example of a larger piece I put together and painted many, many, many years ago (anywhere from 15 to 25 years ago). It's a rather nice dragon sculpt, but I'm not sure who the manufacturer is (and the bottom is hidden by a flat base so I can't check).

The upper spine on his left wing snapped off before I actually painted it, but despite that flaw I'm quite proud of it and it has lived in my curio cabinet for years. As with the earlier figure it was painted using Testor's Enamel paints and sealed with a spray gloss coat.

It's a lot of fun seeing a bunch of these old minis!

I actually have a couple handfuls of the Ral Partha minis in a shoebox in storage in another state somewhere... now I really want to dig those out and take some pictures... chipped Testors enamels and all :)

Great thread!

That would be cool. One of the things I have found is wanting to strip some and give them a repaint.I mean why not I have picture to remember the old one by

I absolutely love that zombie barbarian, Grim. Two of my favourite types of fantasy figures in one! Who made/makes him?

Totally getting an Ahnuld vibe from the barbarian king, by the way. That hair colour is perfect for him. I happen to have chosen those two figures to paint up for my wedding cake topper, so I like seeing any painted examples.
