Does your son get mad when you destroy all his hard artistic works?

No, some models I wouldn't say he painted. He brushed a load of paint onto the face and then would drop them into the bucket after declaring they were finished. He did keep asking to use my paints so at some point I may have to live with some strange painted models!!

1) Get poster paints

2) Get empty paint pots

3) Fill paint pots with poster paints

4) Present filled paint pots to son

5)???

6) PROFIT

Meaning, he won't use up your nice paints, and he'll be happy he's getting to use "Daddy's paints." Everyone wins! ^_^

Huzzah!

Ed are you picking up the Bones II? My girls are 3 and I am picking them up the Mouslings, one set each for Christmas 2014 when they will be 4 1/2 and ready for getting into smaller miniatures (I hope).

I've just bought some latex plaster moulds and going to get them started on those ASAP.

Are you on the South Coast?

Nice job getting your son involved.

I let my kids paint stuff I am not too keen on - for practice. Mostly using craft paint. On occassion I will buy them something they pick out.

Another idea with older kids, is to let them paint redundant stuff, like dire rats. It is pretty hard to mess up a dire rat. The worse they are painted, the more they look like they were digging through garbage/corpses.

Hi yes I have jumped in on the second one. There are some very nice models in the core set again. I am not sure about the mouslings but I may get a set anyway. I am not on the south coast up near Kendal in the Lake District. My oldest is 3 so I have go him to help out with some Hirst Arts stuff. He like casting and painting the base coat.

And, let's not forget, you can always soak them in Simple Green no matter what paint the kid uses if you have dire need of the miniature in the future.

Not sure what a suitable alternative to simple green is in the uk?

Well, it's basically a strong degreasing detergent liquid.

Cool. Yeah I've not tried the casting with the girls yet but picked up 5 molds on ebay to start with them soon.

It's great doing crafty stuff with the kids :)

Here's the MSDS. Detergents and solvents.

Looks like Simple Green has a UK distributor: http://www.encleansols.co.uk/3/

Alternatively, on other sites I've seen recommendations for Fairy Power Spray, but have no personal knowledge of even what it might be.

Edited to add: It looks like they sell mostly spray bottles in "1 US liter" size.

Dettol. Soak for 24 hours and then scrub under hot running water with an old toothbrush.

Though I haven't yet tried that with Bones.

The chief difference between Bones and other minis, in this context, is that if the detergent has a strong perfume it will linger in the Bones.

Huh, well even simple green makes things stink of licorice. I suppose "stink" depends on whether you like it or not though

Mmmm yummy. Now I just need to persuade ReaperBryan to pop a bottle of Simple Green in with my Bones II, or pre-soak all my Bones before mailing them to me. Just when I thought the appeal of Bones couldn't be stronger!
