Bones Kickstarter #2 Discussion

Recommended Posts

I'm fine with seeing dragons showing up in this kickstarter because they're espensive as heck, but I have never liked this one and not even bones could make me.

Nice try, Reaper.

(I'm probably extremely late to this discussion. Let me make it up by saying the gopher centaur is awesome.)

Ouch, shipping will hurt even more than thought.

Still a great deal for a big heap of Bones.

(I am surprised by the difference in shipping between Germany and the UK.)

This is why one flat fee for all overseas didn't work. And try putting in different values - start at 36 ounces and work your way up... look how fast it jumps.

I am not an international backer, but I was wondering the same thing about buying it now at a discount and paying shipping, versus buying it later at retail and getting free shipping. Let's take Neythermaul. He was $25 last KS, and now $40 retail.

If I was an international backer, I would play with the shipping calculator when it comes out very carefully, to see if it was worthwhile to buy now, or to buy it later.

And I would play around with adding each item to see if there was a price break with the shipping. Because there might be an item that is heavy enough to be not worth shipping no matter what, or it might turn out that the shipping can be spread across enough items to make it worth while to buy now versus later.

But if I was an international backer, I would also be very interested in knowing the weights of each add-on, and stretch goal. And I'd be ready for some calculus/good ol' min-maxing towards the end of this thing. ::D:

Oooo and add into that calculus the cost in customs fees on the full retail price versus the kickstarter price... (Maybe I should have been an accountant, cause the idea of trying to find the best possible value with all the given options is getting me excited, even though this doesn't even apply to me!)

Though I have felt the pain of customs, I order some items from England because they're not available here and have to watch very closely for ordering more than $200 at a time (which is usually about 2 items). Because the one time I did order $230 worth of stuff, I got slapped with a $64 customs charge. Ack!! So I understand the international backers pain.

/me sets the mic down, gets off the box, and goes in search of more Buglips hilarity.

And the choir says "amen".

I totally get supporting your biggest market so I'm not upset or anything, but it does mean a small subsidy from international to US.

No, just no. It is not a subsidy; this type of thinking drives me batty. I'm not singling you out on this Berik, you just happened to post it most recently, and here. You, as a backer, are not paying for my shipping, any more than I paid for anyone else's ROW shipping last time. The money, at the end of the day, is Reaper's. They decide what they do with the funds. They've chosen to take a loss, and eat the US shipping costs out of their profits. This idea that anyone outside the doors of the Reaper building somehow has any impact on what Reaper does with the dollars from this campaign is ludicrous. It is based on a logical fallacy, and it needs to stop.

No kidding.

I'm happy it's Bonesium and not metal, that saves me a fortune on shipping alone :;): .

Maybe Reaper should just charge everyone the actual cost of shipping including those in the US and then no one can complain that it's unfair. I'm willing.

I'm not interested much in dragons. There's two in the core expansion which I plan on getting and I have one from the original KS so I'm good. And I'm good with them being in the KS because others do like them and it gives me a break in that I don't have to have every add on. So keep it up Brian.

I would LIKE to see a super heroes add on or something but I'm not going to complain about it.

it needs to stop.

This idea that anyone outside the doors of the Reaper building somehow has any impact or say in what behaviour needs to stop is ludicrous.

Its nice that you are enthusiastic and want to defend Reaper, but telling people what they can and cant do is (imo) unlikely to win you any friends or contribute to a positive atmosphere for the KS campaign, particularly when you are basing your arguments on an overly pedantic interpretation of peoples' posts (eg, focusing specifically on the use of the word "subsidize" instead of the more charitable interpretation that they mean "my money is going to Reaper, who are then putting money towards a subsidy").

No offense to anyone involved, and please respect my position, but right now I am at the position The Hunter explains.

It is a hot deal for US backers, it is so-so for us international, and then I will probably just drop it and buy it retail in a years' time. Less hassle for everybody involved, me and Reaper.

However, this means that Reaper will probably lose a backer. Or a dozen. It seems they planned for this and don't care.

Ok, I guess.

PS: I am also rabid about comments on the KS thread by northamericans spouting BS about healthcare, or some political retort, whatever. So don't pretend it is only ROW backer being woofy. Just, perhaps understandably even if "not right", ROW are the most dissappointed. I know I am, because I cannot afford it now.

No one subsidised my shipping last time and I'm not subsidising anyone's this time.

If I'm paying full shipping on top of my pledge for the Core $100 that just means my $100 is worth slightly more to Reaper than someone paying $100 and having the shipping taken out of it.

I'm not saying that makes me a better person..... I'm just saying I'm fabulous

Agree to disagree. Getting upset over other people's opinions is over the line.

If people chose to manage their wallets in such a fashion that they can't support this Kickstarter, that is their right and responsibility.

Don't be rude about it here.

I'll repost what I wrote on the KS update and would like some input on it:

Let me put another spin on things:
If we, as ROW pledgers, have to incorporate shipping into our pledges, we're essentially helping more things get unlocked with our shipping money, but might not be able to take advantage of those extra unlocked minis because, due to the included shipping in the pledge, we've hit our max spending limit.
While I don't think it's unfair that we have to pay full shipping, the above scenario does, IMO, start to stray into unfair grounds.

add.: If one were to spin it more, you could say that ROW shipping helps subsidize more stretch goals for US (yes, and ROW) backers. Think about that. :poke:

I would like to add, again, that I really don't mind paying the actual shipping cost, I would just like to have it separate (both in time and place) from my actual KS pledge.

Or we could look at it that since the US doesn't pay additional shipping charges, they have more money to spend on the miniatures and so are able to make larger pledges, which since they represent the majority of the backers, means they are the ones driving the project and helping us reach more stretch goals.
