Bones Kickstarter #2 Discussion

I am a long time painter but am new to Bones/Reaper. I just joined the kickstarter II. Does anyone have a higher resolution image or images of the mini's in the new Kickstarter. I have found a few combing through reapermini.com but that takes a long time.

Yes, naponatom has made an excellent thread with links to pictures of all the available sculpts that can be found on Reaper's online store: http://www.reapermini.com/forum/index.php?/topic/51663-ks-bones-ii-list-of-miniatures/

Welcome aboard, and especially welcome to the forums! :)

Huzzah!

Thanks! This is really helpful.

Also, I don't RPG, I mostly am into it for painting but occasionally play wargames (Warmachine/Hordes) is there a site that adapts stats for Bones/Reaper miniatures for use in wargames? Looking at all the minis I keep thinking it would be cool to create small skirmish armies out of the similar themed minis.

Welcome to the forums, Rich711. People are here for all kinds of reasons, and you are certainly not the only non-RPGer here.

I am a RPGer and not much of a wargamer. I haven't paid too much attention to those areas of the forum, but I believe some of the Reaper minis are made specifically for wargames. Hopefully someone a little more experienced will be along to clarify.

Reaper has their warlord game that uses their figures. I haven't played it, but I might once ks2 arrives.

Thanks, Last Knight, onyxGuenhwyvar, klawzie, OneBoot, and Darsc, for pointing out that the Kickstarter comments were probably a big factor in the background context of the Yephima the Cloud Giantess thread.

It suddenly makes everything more comprehensible.

The Kickstarter comments have always been more volatile than here, and I have noticed a lot more people shooting their mouths off a lot more venemously without apparent forethought.

(For example, I've been lobbying for more female minis of various kinds, I hope not too tediously, and while many responses over there have been supportive, others have included incredulity that anyone could possibly want more females after Reaper's first Kickstarter, an assertion that since men are 90% of the hobbyists ( no idea if that's actually true) no female minis are wanted or necessary, repeated mockery of the very idea of female monsters as creepy and abnormal, and the use of loaded words like "nagging.")

I was not aware of Kickstarter comments early on. Indeed, I didn't even notice them until after the first Bones Kickstarter was over; I did all my pledging based on what showed up on the KS's Home page and Updates.

I can just imagine KS commenter's responses to the newly revealed giant sketches. (Despite my general philosophy of actually researching and reading what I talk about, this time I don't plan to go back and look at them.) The general level of privilege and assumption displayed over there suggests that they were not thoughtfully considered.

In that context I can see why a single sniping post over here could trigger such an outpouring of support and emotion.

I swear, those Kickstarter comments are toxic. Thanks, OneBoot, for sifting out relevant and interesting posts.

Famous last words...

So, I did go back and look at them after all, the comments from the Female Storm Giant reveal on the Kickstarter updates.

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1513061270/reaper-miniatures-bones-an-evolution-of-gaming-min/posts/294358?page=1#comments

Sigh. I guess I just like to poke around and find out what's going on.

So, anyway, as far as I can tell, there were three pages of comments (143 comments total).

Since Kickstarter does not allow editing or removal of posts, they are a good record of what was actually said, without moderated gaps.

The first responses to the reveal were awed and impressed, but fairly soon several people -- all with male screen-names -- started criticizing the female giant.

They were soon joined by people with ambiguous screen names, but almost all of the identifiable females in the thread were defending the sculpt. Although there eventually was one person with a screen name that could be female who objected to the thin proportions of the giant compared to the other stockier female giants, none of the strongly-worded vitriol came from posters who were identified as female.

I noticed that one specific poster seemed to be driving a lot of the venom, putting up the most frequent and most strongly insultingly worded posts. This poster's name can coincidentally easily be rearranged into "Troller," but it is possible I am entering crazy conspiracy theory land here. He did, however, at one point say "I like all the flame comments. Trollolol."

And at the end poor Talin posted that he was bowing out of the comments, and who could blame him.

I do find it disturbing that the anger about the snark and sniping trollish comments mutated over time to an anger at feminists, women gamers, and political correctness, even though all of the original criticism came from men and seems to have been largely provocation.

I've long said I do not object to cheesecake, and so I don't. I would prefer a greater variety of available figures for all tastes, but I have no interest in depriving other people of their favorites.

I would ask that people please extend the courtesy of responding to the people who are actually talking to them, not to some other person who said something awful elsewhere.

It is mind boggling how one person can derail an entire thread. Trolling, whether deliberate or not, can really throw a wrench into an otherwise civil discussion. That does sound like a genuine trolling attempt to me though.

Yeah. I suspect that was pure trolling.

Unfortunately it really resonated and upset a lot of people. It caused, I think, some mistrust and bitterness that lingers to this day and hurts the community.

And it seems to have really hurt Talin, who has done such beautiful design work and didn't deserve any of that.

It's all going to be down to the exact dynamics of the plastic flow in the mould (on other items the fix would be to change the shape being moulded slightly, re-cutting the existing mould, but when you're looking at a face on a fixed size head that's not really viable)

this can never be completely predicted although Reaper should have a better handle on what does and doesn't work so hopefully it will be less prevalent

Also now they now know there is a potential issue (and have more time before delivery) they may be able to drop an item that is not working and replace it with a similar figure so avoiding shipping minis with missing bits

I really do not buy this explaination. They ran the mold like 20000 times probably taking about 36-48 hours of production time. I highly doubt that all the variables over that whole time would be tight enough that everyones model has exactly the same defect. Add in the models with unexplained rough surfaces to the missing noses.

You are thinking of Warlord Pingo. Warlord is a war game put out by Reaper and they create the minis for it. They are really nice. I don't know where the rules for it are sold though.

I'd suggest starting at Reaper's website.

Also, you might find the following links useful:

The Warlord site at reapergames.com

The Warlord section of the Reaper forums.

bored and browsing the KS i decided to play a little game: name the chimera's parts!

357kGoal_met.jpg

the lion head looks awful familiar, say, from the core expansion set #2: 02776: Male & Female Lion

the goat head is clearly from: 14456: Mastema, Darkspawn Demon

any ideas where other parts might come from? new?

Ok, I really need to stop watching the kicktracker, and looking back at the kickstarted page every few minutes. We will get what we will get, and it will grow by the end. A watched pot never boils.

Maybe I just need to block the website until 3 days before the end. So I can be surprised at all the cool stuff I'm getting!

Right now, it's like watching paint dry.

You could also probably just arrange to ship it to a family member or friend. Then you totally avoid the whole hassle of whether or not it will arrive on the same day.

Not really necessary. All you have to do is to have the multiple pledges in different waves and viola! Problem solved.

Of course, then you have to work out what to do with the viola. Not much use for large stringed instruments in this hobby >.>
