Bones Kickstarter #2 Discussion

I will weigh in that a Tarrasque figure would be one that I would pass on. It would only be a decorative piece for me and Kaladrax is already taking up most of that space. If it does appear, well that is ok as well as that is one of the options I don't have to spend my limited funds on. The only reason I would consider picking one up is if I needed a fresh batch of "Terrasco" Sauce "Guarenteed to eat you from the inside out" :)

I, personally am still hoping for a wide variety of calvary with prefrence give to anything that includes a dismounted figure of the rider as well.

Suden, where is that amazing statue from? (I think it's neat, although I have a hard time seeing it in anyone's garden. Those spikes on the shell look particularly vulnerable, and indeed I think I can see signs of repair on the rearmost one.)

Since the negative comments about minis have been so toxic, I have been focusing exclusively on figures I like or would like.

Still, I will say that a Tarrasque, although a fun idea, is not to my mind as useful a mini for its size as many others. TBH, when I saw Gamera there in the Core Set Expansion #1, I thought he already was a Tarrasque (For some reason I am remembering the Core Set graphic as without labels, so even though he's obviously a Dragon Turtle, I first thought of him as Bad Gamera.).

I don't mean to rain on anyone's parade or damp anyone's enthusiasm. I'm sure Reaper has some amazing reveals planned for this Kickstarter. I just don't think anyone should get their hopes up too high for a Tarrasque.

lol Gamera, that's awesome. I love it! My hubby described the Tarrasque as the monster you use when your party had become too powerful and you wanted to show them they were still mud on someone's boot heel. I just think it would be neat to have, but yeah, there's other things I'd rather have first. Like more cavalry, oh wait, cavalry at all.

See, that old MM2 Tarrasque is on two legs. And says it's 50' long. Presumably that's from head to tail.

So that's 10 5' people. So we'll say maybe 9 Sir Garricks minimum.

C'thulhu is upright.

C'thulhu is more than 9 Sir Garricks long.

C'Thulhu is my stand-in for MM2 Tarrasque. I was right!

I'd love a Tarrasque mini, but the one I'd like is based off the 3rd edition artwork that Reaper can't use. I really like the Tarrasque for nostalgia more than anything else, I'd have very limited use for it in a game. So while I in principle love the idea of a Tarrasque mini I'm not at all sure it's something that I'd buy in practice. Maybe a feline Tarrasque to battle my mouslings...

And by the time I finally get through catching up with 20-something pages of this thread since I posted my nailpolish fumes high "fox" noise, I find that someone posts the version of Tarrasque that I always think of. :c

Oh well - have more photos of it (also - which is scarier? The taraesque or these giant heads that for whatever reason are tagged the same as the monster?): http://www.flickriver.com/photos/tags/tarasque/interesting/

So when everyone's all, "Ieee, tarraesque, tarraesque!!!!" I'm thinking giant turtle with possibly spikes like Bowser. And I see the weird creature that people know from D&D and go, "meh."

So... on the subject of giant turtles.... I want a World Tortoise. :B

Turtles, tortoises, tarraesques... TMNTs. I dont get it. There already is a giant turtle and some little turtles in the KS call them what you want. Of all sculpts I have seen turtles are the last on my mind.

I don't care about the Tarrasque. I know you are catering to the D&D crowd, but I am not in that target customer area, so... anyone up for some DungeonWorld PbP? ;)

Anyway, as an international customer from South America, after looking at the pledge manager, I reviewed my pledge, added a couple more add-ons, and upped my pledge. I still believe the initial backlash will be very harsh on Reaper in the international markets (about 6 months ago most shops in Spain were very excited about the Bones KS, well, the buyers in there) and stuff like what happens are comment-makers, you know.

I still need to convince my wife it is a good idea and I think I am at a limit paying 1/3 of my pledge in shipping only. I wish I could redirect the shipment to the US and have a solid lead on where to send it; but am afraid that if things change (delivery is a year from now!) Reaper would not be able to charge me...

Bryan, if you can clarify, what will be the procedure if I move from a US shipping address to an international address like, in August/14?

PS: I also do not trust my thirld-world crappy mail to treat the box fairly and it reaching me intact :(

What do people mean, when they say things like backlash against Reaper will be harsh? Do they mean because KS circumvents the local game store? If that is the issue than welcome to the 21st century. The local game store will have to adapt or die like all businesses in the internet age. Local gaming stores have gotten by too long on just being a shelf to buy stuff and some card tables to play. Of all the gaming stores I have visited on both coasts of the US only a couple I have been to in Southern California really put effort into building beautiful gaming tables. Every other gaming store has been dusty caves that smell of stale take-out food, with green felt tables and mis-match scenery. Reaper is investing in some valuable customer loyalty with the KS, more local game stores should do the same. It takes more elbow grease than money to make your store welcoming and clean.

Actually, I would kind of like to see a sea turtle, the flippered sort sea elves ride. But it's not very high on my list of wants, just something I think would be nice.

On the whole I'm trying not to ask for things which are readily available elsewhere.

Per Wikipedia, that is a statue of the (non-gygaxian) "The Tarasque, near King René's castle in Tarascon [France]".

I'll confess, I never really understood the Tarrasque's popularity.

Still, there is obviously a lot of interest, so here's hoping y'all get what you want, some day soon.

I believe one of the reasons of its popularity is that, since 1st ed. AD&D, it has always been perceived as the biggest baddest creature of any monster book.

Beating the Tarrasque means that you've beaten the most powerful engine of destruction in existence, that you've symbolicaly "won" the adventure. It is most certainly not a random enounter.

Interesting note with regards to Pathfinder is that the Tarrasque is the latest in a series of "Spawn of Rovagug". The first recorded one was a collossal horned beetle which laid waste to ancien Osirion (their version of ancient Egypt).

I'm not saying I wouldn't buy it. ::):

My wishlist:

Herald of Razmir. The cultists are nice, but this guy has been on my list to pick up for a while. http://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/Pathfinder/latest/60136

Khavith, Serpentfolk evoker http://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/Pathfinder/latest/60078

Shoanti Barbarian: http://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/Pathfinder/latest/60115

I'd also love to be able to afford a small squad of these in bones:

The hook mountain ogres

A grey maiden: http://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/Pathfinder/latest/60025

Red mantis: http://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/Pathfinder/latest/60049

Those are pretty nice, except that anime looking barbarian with his oversized meat cleaver. He must spend half his day doing sit ups and gulping suppliments. And not a big fan of that goofy bug-ninja either. The other 3 are beautiful models. I'd be thrilled if they were added.

The Shoanti barbarian is ridiculous on purpose as part of the theme. Their hammer (known as "earthbreakers") are exotic weapons that are often paired with the spiked skull shield (Klar) that he's got in the sculpt.

The bug guy is a red mantis assassin- the flavor is that they're a mysterious cult of killers for hire that augment their rogue abilities with magic tied to the devotion of a mantis god. [spoiler alert]

I picked the bulk of my list because they're mooks- that it would be nice to be able to field a group rather than one or two individuals. I have some of them in metal already, I just can't justify dropping the full price for metal.

I would also concur with the other posters that talk about umber hulk, hook horror-esque minis, and otyughs. They're available in the old WoTC DDM line, but were always rare and expensive. Too expensive for a single encounter mini.

A big PF expansion set would rock.. or a bones boxed set after KS2 is done..

+10000 this! Themed bones box sets at a modest discount for new hobbyists to jump right in building armies. I really do believe Bones are so much more approachable for noobs than metal. And affordable. But the Reaper store, even with it's great discovery tools, is still pretty intimidating. How cool would it be to see Boxed Set Bones and think ok I'd like to DM some PFS games. I'll grab that box of Pathfinder Iconics and Monster Hordes. Add one or two big monsters for final encounters. Can't resist a dragon. GTG.

Way easier than finding each model.

BTW if you start with Bones (like me) metal seems like such a pain. I'm painting a bunch of metal now and deeply annoyed by it. Bringing noobs on board with Bones increases the probability of Bones/Reaper loyalty, IMHO.

Yes to boxed sets in the store!

ETA that even when not painting Bones I also prefer Reaper metal.

I don't know if Reaper has any but I wouldnt mind some of the more unconventional Pathfinder classes like gunslinger and monk or maybe "gun-fu".

Actually, now that I see the pathfinder gunslinger, I change my vote back to "more Warlord" stuff. Gunslinger looks too cartoony.

From what I've seen on the Paizo website, they agree with your assessment of the gunslinger. I get the feeling it's not a big seller.
