I would love to see some of the other familiar packs converted to bones. Especially Familiar Pack V http://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/familiar/sku-down/02848. Love the turtle. Also familiar pack VII.http://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/familiar/sku-down/02948. I want to paint those fish.

.

I was just thinking the same thing!

I think we can safely assume those are in the works, given the remarkable popularity of the other 2 familiars packs.

I very much hope so. More bones familiars would make me happy. I got extras in the last KS!

I was hoping for Familiar Pack IX, X, and the aquatic familiar packs..

It ain't gonna happen (due to IP), and still wouldn't top Cthulhu, but I'd take a brilliantly sculpted giant Peter Jackson-esque Balrog over a tarrasque any day.

Check out the sculpt on the left in the "Demon Lords" add-on for this KS. ^_^

Huzzah!

--OneBoot :D

Oh, The Balrog's spunky nephew on steroids has been in my pledge calculation from the moment the manager was available OneBoots!

Since we were talking Cthulhu level awesomeness I was just fantasizing about a bonesium expression of the Balrog on a more epically cinematic scale.

Balors are Balrogs. Gygax changed the name to avoid Tolkein's copyright.

Unless wikipedia is lying to me:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balor_(Dungeons_%26_Dragons)

From Eldritch Wizardry:

"Type VI: These rather rare demons are sometimes known as balrogs...."

AD&D 1st Ed. Monster Manual:

"Type VI (Balor) ... Each type VI demon has its own name. (Balor is a type VI demon of he largest size.)"

In AD&D 2nd's attempt to make the game less controversial, demons became tanar'ri. And the big ones were Balor.

I mean, if you want human-scale fae, like the Daoine Sidhe, Reaper's done hundreds of minis that will fit that category - they're called elves ...

Some examples - solid "this is a picture of what I want" examples, not vague references to an urban fantasy TV show, would likely be helpful?

Appreciate the suggestions izzylobo, and no, I'm not simply talking about human scale fae/elves. ::):

My apologies for not being more clear. When I said human adult proportioned (vs adolescent or child-like), I was simply referring to relative body proportions not necessarily total figure scale.

The same way that in classical paintings there are cherubic representations of angels as opposed to adult proportioned ones, amongst classically portrayed winged faeries there are those that are represented in a more pixie/sprite like style and those with more adult proportions. (whether human scale or dancing on the head of a pin)

It's certainly true that any attractive human figure could be painted and mounted thematically to represent a Dryad for example, but I happen to enjoy figures like Drys that have thematic elements built into their very design. All the better for Reaper too, because if I was content to adapt all my own figures to every imaginable purpose I would be investing far less in new ones! Winged Fairies? Pffft. I'll just find some butterfly and dragonfly wings to glue on these townsfolk! ::P:

As for pics, if I have time later and I'm near a desktop computer I'll try and dig up some images when it's easier to manage the linking.

Edit: Hm. Kind of digging the idea of winged warrior fae armed and/or armored as wildly as many of the other heroes we've got. Heck with townsfolk, I might need to find me some butterfly wings after all.

My gauge of this whole KS discussion has been that for large minis, the people are more vocally in support of a Tarrasque than anything else. To a fairly large degree. If Reaper could swing it, I'm sure the response would be incredible.

To me a Tarrasque mini is the only way that reaper will top an end game like Cthulhu was for KS 1

I don't think a tarrasque would even come close to topping Cthulhu. (in impact or sales)

However legendary it may be amongst the faithful, there's a sizable segment of backers not coming from this specific gaming lineage and know nothing of it, whereas Cthulhu is found in virtually every corner of gaming and has tentacles extending well beyond gamers altogether.

Dragons are runaway best sellers because of mass appeal and cultural identification that likewise transcends specific game properties and gaming itself.

Heck, even the PF Iconic Heroes have an appeal outside of the legions of PF players because regardless of their link to that specific property they're a perfect stand in for countless other archetypal fantasy heroes.

The tarrasque is enormously niche compared to Cthulhu and wouldn't sell nearly as many because of that fact alone.

I must admit though, I'm at a loss at the moment to think of something I DO think would be on par with Cthulhu.

Well Im not sure how many people are gamers more than painters/sculpters. I think the gameing community makes up a large portion of sales. I will not argue though that it would be a better seller than Cthulhu because even I dont think it will be. But the tarrasque is an iconic creature that I think alot of gamers have wanted for ages. Whether it be WoTC version or something else entirely. To me that is the only thing that could rival such a creature as Cthulhu. (Im not counting dragons because that just not a fair comparison. Dragons are going to outsell EVERYTHING) I do not agree that it would be a terrible seller. Although it may have a niche place I think that niche has a large enough following to make sales decent.

A big PF expansion set would rock.. or a bones boxed set after KS2 is done..

+10000 this! Themed bones box sets at a modest discount for new hobbyists to jump right in building armies. I really do believe Bones are so much more approachable for noobs than metal. And affordable. But the Reaper store, even with it's great discovery tools, is still pretty intimidating. How cool would it be to see Boxed Set Bones and think ok I'd like to DM some PFS games. I'll grab that box of Pathfinder Iconics and Monster Hordes. Add one or two big monsters for final encounters. Can't resist a dragon. GTG.

Way easier than finding each model.

BTW if you start with Bones (like me) metal seems like such a pain. I'm painting a bunch of metal now and deeply annoyed by it. Bringing noobs on board with Bones increases the probability of Bones/Reaper loyalty, IMHO.

Yes to boxed sets in the store!

ETA that even when not painting Bones I also prefer Reaper metal.

I think searching for monsters on Challenge Rating would be very very good for DM

and for players to be able to search on race / class

Reaper sells conversion kits. Some of those conversion kits include wings to make fairies/pixies. I know more because I was looking. I found Dragonman conversion kits, demon wings and some fairy type wings.

Well, I didn't think that they were cutsie. ::P:

I used one for the Reaper fall contest. Faeries with knives aren't really that cute, IMO

I hear you, and those are very cool! But regardless of what they're garbed in and holding they've still got more in common with tinkerbell and puck than Titania or classical Fae in their physical features, and the latter is what I personally am requesting. (and which is under-represented in the current catalog)

Not to mention that the seductive nature of Nymphs/Dryads done in such an adolescent style is sure to raise a hell of a lot more hackles than the more classical adult proportioned fae.

Also from a sales perspective, when I go to fantasy/sci-fi and gaming cons it's the adult proportioned fairies that I see selling in far greater numbers than the child-like proportioned ones.

Those fairies are like the ones from Pan's Labyrinth. Hardly cute.

But if all you really want if humans with fairy wings attached that's easy enough to do as a conversion. I would suggest pinning the wings, they'll stay better.
