Prediction: The next stretchgoal will be another HUGE orange addon.

Guess I'll just have to wait for tomorrow and see.

I'm hoping they unveil Expansion #2, though I don't know if they'll do that so close to the end of Expansion #1. They might want to stick a few orange and purple goals in there. Still, Expansion #2 would be another big batch of minis, which is why I hope it shows up soon! ::D:

Well with the next up being the completion of Exp1, and the previous being a purple, you can safely assume the next will be orange. It's been purple-gold-orange, purple-gold-orange for a few rounds now. I imagine this next one will be a paid addon, then another bonus for the Core, then maybe Exp2 pt1.

Interesting comments. I agree it's not really fair to compare the two Kickstarters yet, since #2 isn't completed, but it's still fun to discusss and over-analyze. :) Also, I hadn't realized there were a bunch of small size minis (Dungeon Attack) in the first Kickstarter. I tend to like the larger minis, so that is a plus for #2. I think I'm trying to invent as many reasons as possible to allow me to spend $100 on unpainted minis. I usually buy prepaints because I have no painting skillz, but I may take the plunge anyway.

Even if they remain unpainted, they're nice minis for gaming...and how much money would you have to spend on prepaints just to get an ankheg, carrion crawler, roper and gorgon?

Maybe not a hundred bucks (but maybe so, it's been a while since I looked at any ppms, but I know some used to eBay for a bunch), but these are really nice sculpts of monsters you don't often see. Plus you get more gnolls, a sweet-patootie chimera, Dragoth the Defiler and a bunch of other thing besides.

And then, if you DO start painting, well, then, you've enriched your life with a rewarding new hobby.

I think it's a pretty good deal, and honestly, from a DM standpoint, I like this Core Set better than the Vampire.

I am intrigued at the idea of comparing them with some kind of equal ground.

Something like:

Small = 1/2

Medium = 1

Large = 2

Huge = 3 or 4?

etc.

Once we assigned a point value like that, we could compare how many "points" KS1 had as free stretch goals and how many as add ons. We could then compare to current KS2 numbers and adjust as more is revealed.

I realize that this will not work out perfectly, but it is an interesting thought exercise.

Yeah but against that they did get Thomas the Tank Injector. And a whole bunch of molds for future use.

This is not quite accurate. All the stuff from KS1 was made in China, and if you check out the base of each figure, you'll find the words "Made in China" there. That means that even *if* the factory in China were to send Reaper the molds (which I'm not really sure they'd do anyway; most contract casting companies either store or destroy molds once a job is done, rather than send them to the customer), they'd be less than useful.

What they do have is access to having more figures run from those molds (in China), and maybe the files that were used to cut the molds.

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that they got a bunch of molds they could use on Thomas without altering them (although, it's possible those copyright plates are an insert of some description: I don't know enough about plastic injection tooling to say). All I meant is they got a bunch of molds to provide me with access to cheap plastic figures : )

Larger and monstrous minis are a great choice to start painting with. Less fiddly detail, and if they end up looking a little dirty or beat up, well wouldn't monsters look that way? ;->

Welp, I got it wrong. I hope all those people clamoring for cavalry up their bids and unlock some new stretch goals. I will add some paints to my order in the meantime, and await further expansion reveals before jumping into this one.
