It just occurred to me that since that "Heroes and Villains" add-ons include detachable bases, that means separate moulds for each section. That will likely increase the per unit cost of the retail price, won't it? It has been my impression that the more separate pieces the more expensive the Bones mini becomes. I could be wrong about this since it is just speculation on my part.

IF those bases become available without the mini, I am all over that.

I feel like IF the prices are increased, they'll be in the lower range of metal mini prices (i.e. $4.99-$6.99).

Expansion #2. Just so happy... And more cohesively themed with so many unlocks.... I'm crossing my fingers that there are some brigands in there somewhere. Doesn't matter if there aren't any tho. Still must have the expansion.... got to have it, AND THE PAINT!!!!!!!

You might be surprised at how many Bones you think are 1 piece actually aren't. I keep finding new ones, like the skelton with round shield.

Hands up, who thought he was one piece.

Interesting:

Skeleton with sword and shield = 2 pieces

Skeleton with spear and shield = 1 piece

was it specified on any post whether or not the Calvary were going to be separate from their mounts?

The original bear rider is one piece (with weapon sprue) so I don't see that being different in plastic. Sir Danel is two pieces, rider and mount, so the plastic one might come that way. Count Lorenth is also in pieces. In short, don't expect the Bones to be significantly different than the metal versions.

OTOH, Bones have often been different in the past. Different materials require different molds require different divisions. It is possible that it will be easiest to cut them in the same places, but we can't assume that they'll necessarily be the same.

True, but I imagine cutting a mounted figure under the legs would not be the most efficient or simple of tasks.

I suspect the only way one would have a separable mount and rider is if they were sculpted separately to begin with.

Oh, right. Whoops, forgot the point of that speculation. I suppose it's possible they were sculpted separately, then cast as one piece in metal, and will now be cast as multiple parts in Bones, but it seems unlikely.

Very true. i have descovered several that are multiple pieces. I even took advantage of a couple to pull them apart to make painting into the corners behind shields easier. I also have a lizard man with one of his arms loose. I'll fix it when I get to his painting turn.

For Count Loenth you could try some of the overlord figures:

Corvus and Andra are to possibilities:

For Sir Daniel:

Sir Titus Guardian Knight, and I'm sure I have seen some others but it appears that my entire family is streaming video so my bandwidth is sucking right now.

Basically I went with figure that had a similar style. Easiest way to do that is to look at the army they are part of (Warlord Dwarf, Overlords and Crusaders) and see if there is a afoot guy/girl that looks close. The other way is to find the original mounted figure and then use the figure finder to search for other figures by the same sculptor as you can usually find something similar as most sculptors have a personal style that when combined with your paint job can sell the figures as being similar.

Hope that helps.

"I also think Reaper has structured this one better for themselves, with the core set and the expansion. They can limit how many minis go into the core set, and make us pay more for the expansion."

Well, I can see why Reaper would like this, but not consumers. I don't go in for the philosophy of "let's pay more so we can keep the store in business". As long as there is demand, someone will arise and fill it. It's one of the many great things about capitalism.

Captain! that goblin is waving his hand!

Shoot him!

I guess that is better that they come already glued.

Are there seriously complaints about only getting minis at 1/2 to 1/3 of retail? I commend Reaper on what they are doing. They have even seen that the big gaps between goals could prove troublesome and made smaller future groupings in the next expansion.

As for the expansion prices, while I agree that it would be nice to buy them piecemeal, I also appreciate the reduced cost that is associated with buying them as a set.
