Bones Kickstarter #2 Discussion

It's worth noting that people have been wrong about telling Reaper that Reaper is doing things wrong for more than a decade. Like how Bones was predicted to be a disaster nobody would ever want. (and I own some of that one)

Having grown tired of being wrong, I decided it was easier to just assume they know what they're doing. I've been right a lot more since I started doing that.

As for being the goat; technically I am a goat.

As far as all the predictions on successful the Bones 2 Kickstarter will be, I plan to leave it up the the Reaper crew. You know the guys who have actually run a miniatures business, have access to and developed the marketing data and have already run a successful Kickstarter. I'm not in for one of everything (yet) but I have liked most of what I have seen and I'm pretty sure that I will like most of will be seen.

Another thing I sometimes lose sight of with all the Bones excitement is that this Kickstarter isn't for us. It's a Kickstarter for Reaper to invest in capital assets (molds primarily) to grow their line of Bones miniatures. No matter what we think of the results, the reality is whether Reaper meets it's goals. Obviously the more excited we are and the more we buy in the better it will be for Reaper, but even if things were to end now, I don't think things could be considered a failure (not that some would wouldn't call it that) but from the generation on capital assets it's a great success.

Anyways my unsolicited two coppers as there have been so many posts here and in the Kickstarter Comments that have finally made me want to put my thoughts in writing rather than shout them at the screen (which earns me strange looks from Awesome Wife btw).

Edited due to spelling (no matter how much I proof-read there will always be at least one error I don't see until after I post).

DAMMIT!

Now I want two Mashaafs. :grr:

(Although really I wish I had one already in my possession. She'd be perfect for use in a certain, recently published, PFS scenario.)

I think it was probably a good call to include pointers to Wren's Bones database too. It hadn't occurred to me for them to do it before, but there is a ton of good information there. It's where I send Bones newbies.

If CE2 and 3 aren't fulfilled, I can imagine that Reaper may disassemble them and sell them off as 2-3 addons each instead of 1 big addon, so I don't think saying "this isn't happening" is helpful.

I don't see that happening, since it could in principle lead people to reducing their pledges, and possibly re-locking goals that that have already been unlocked (though unlikely).

I see this as the risk inherent with bundling your addons, but it's their show so they get to run it. I don't see how it could reduce pledges, since I'm pretty sure most people haven't pledged towards any half-complete CE's.

Even if they have, the pledge amounts will drop anyways once people pull their $50 pledges so why not give them 3 $10 pledges so you only lose $20 instead of $50?

I disagree. Personally, CE2 is already worth at least $50 (especially if you factor the money I'll save with the angels in Warlord armies versus getting them in metal). I'm fairly certain that i am not the only one feeling this way.

I was holding off on my conclusions about Mashaaf. I love Talin's stuff and I was sure that there had to be more to the story than initial reveal. Plus, Kevin Williams. You know if there is anyone who could make a monster cool its Kevin. And he didn't disappoint. How do you sculpt a worm to have a dynamic action pose? Well now we know. And now I have to have at least one.

Pair of Wave 5's open at the moment. Lots of people dropping out today :(. Only 55 new backers thus far, lowest day of the whole KS.

Is that Wave 5 core or Wave 5 $1? Maybe people are dropping back into other spots (because they live near Denton), moving their pledges around from $1 to $100, or a combination of things. I know some people have taken up a few $100 spots then they get in with a friend (for the shipping cost or better shipping date) and combine their pledges.

You really don't know what's going on is all I'm saying.

It may not be people dropping out completely, there has been comment from some people in Texas that they may back out of earlier pledges and take later ones because they aren't affected by the shipping because they will just go to Reaper and get them.

Firstly.

Unga ba, that is one sexy worm sculpt. Sold. I may just buy two or three.

Secondly,

As much as I hate to admit it, Rich has some good points. I dislike the way the logical conclusion of those points is going to help to reduce enthusiasm in the Kickstarter, but he's actually put some thought into it. Remember, be the goat.

Let's just focus on what we can do to help the Kickstarter. For me, that means

  • I'm going to link the Kickstarter on social media today. I've avoided doing so to this point so I don't spam people, but now is about the time for me I think
  • I'm going to remind my gaming buddies about it
  • I'm going to post on some other forums I'm active on
  • I'm going to up my pledge to my budget limit, which means adding $200 onto the secondary account. I can always make up any shortfall in what I want with extra Mashaffs >.>

Well fair enough, if you compare to metal, then you're getting a deal. If you're comparing to retail Bones, you're not really. If you're just in for the angels, then you're wayy cheaper to ditch the bundle.

Estimating: 3 knights @ $8 each, 4 soldiers @ $3, 4 Angels @ $6 each. You're close. $51.

But I have to pay shipping on that, so there's the deal breaker. If we unlock the shadows then I'm in the clear, but then I have to decide if it has "worth"...and we had a spat over "worth" about 100 pages ago.

I guess we hit a thread limit count or something because I couldn't post to the last one. Continuing KS2 Bones Discussion here. I guess we just link the old posts by hand?

I was going to go trumpet around Reddit, but figured 4 days was too much time for everyone to miss the post. I'd go 2 days before the end, just to make sure it's still near the front page when everything comes to a head.
