Bones Kickstarter #2 Discussion

Agreed. I never really post there. Reaper Forums are the best!

A long time ago in a galaxy not so far away, I used to post there a LOT. Then I moved to Wyrd, then Privateer Press. Now, I think I've finally found a home at Reaper. (And hopefully they need backup power at Reaper HQ, and they'll give me a job, too.)

it's amazeballs covered in awesome-sauce

Bwahaha! That should be the tagline for Bones III! :lol:

Edit: You know, given how front-loaded Bones II was, I wonder if Bones III (assuming there is one) will only be like a week or two long. Get funding for the initial goals, wrap it up, and get production moving along. It might be smaller, but it'd definitely be more succinct. People would have to make a call whether to back it or not, with a much shorter window to decide.

I think it should be just a single core set at a single pledge amount (with the option to pledge more for additional core sets), with stretch goals being added figures to the core set, AND THATS IT. Reaper bent over backwards to give people tons of themed options as well as a core set this time and I think by the time they get around to a 3rd KS, I'm sure they'll want to make it short and sweet.

I think its lack of choice they want more freeedom to pick and choose

Lack of choice? Wow. So people are upset because they've agreed to pay for something that doesn't have the variety they are looking for. To be clear: they want to pay for something that they know that they are not happy with in advance. Would really like to get some of these people's contact information! I have some bridges that I'd like to sell them...

pretty much....That and no free shipping for some. I dont I think people are going to find an excuse to complain reguardless... But this is one of the few KS Ive seen where the product is sort of randomized in the expo pacts ect...I think reaper taking a small page from DDM is what make some people annoyed...Or simply they want the beest deal possible but they want their suggestions to be the chosen ones....So you're really damned if you do damned if you dont.

But, really, that was also true of the Vampire pledge last year. If you wanted the good deal, you take a bunch of stuff you may not want; pick and choose and get a worse deal. The only real difference this year in the expansions - they have a mix of stuff AND they don't have the individual ordering options.

Truee but the expos limit choice even more. I myself wish the some stuff was seperate but in the end I understand their reason. They are at the end of the day a business and have to run it as such in order to give us all this cool stuff. I would like to not have to make multiple orders and have it all come to me at once but Im still ok with what Im getting. Depending on what comes out in add ons I may have to ignor the expos altogether. It sucks when you have a budget and you cannot pick and choose what you want to get the supreme value out of your money. So the other side I understand and relate to, but I dont think there is call for the complaining like some people on the KS comments. Its uncalled for...but that is the nature of this thing called the internet.

Gager about 14 hours ago

Also, I know I saw in the comments a while back how deep the recess is. Could you reiterate that for the small bases and let us know how big the recess is for the *medium* ones? (In particular, whether or not it's deep enough for us to magnetize the bases without drilling.)

Reaper Miniatures about 14 hours ago

@gager it's around a millimeter, maybe slightly smaller.

~~~~~~~~
Yeah, I remember reading that. That's definitely not deep enough. I guess the question that I have that I HAVEN'T seen answered, is "How thick is the plastic portion." Cuz I'm gonna have to drill if I want to put a magnet in it. I only need 1/16 of an inch, plus an itty bit for glue. I'm guessing if the solid portions of the bases themselves are 1/8", I should be good. Whatcha think guys? On a cursory examination of the pictures of the bases, I'm still unsure.
It sounds as though you're thinking round, rare-earth magnets. I've had good luck with rubberized magnets on the bottom of bases (the kind that get used for magnetized business cards that you put on your refrigerator door). They're easy to cut to size and if they're a bit too thick, the base will still work just fine, just sit a bit proud of the table.
Do you have a good source for those magnet sheets? The ones from Staples are too weak. I found some decent ones at Michaels, but they come in 3/4 inch strips, so I have to cut a whole bunch of half moon shapes in order to make them fit a 1 inch base. Rare earth are super strong, and I wouldn't need to worry about covering the whole surface area with them, as long as I could get a single one put in there.
Haven't bought any in quite a while, but usually sign shops carry decent quality magnet sheet. (They use it for car door signs.) If you're lucky you can get scrap pieces too small for them to use for free or a nominal cost. If not, or if you need a really large quantity, you can usually by sheets of whatever size you need.
IME, it doesn't have to be all that strong even for lead minis, though. In fact, I normally use an undercut at the edge of a base to make it easier to pick up the figure without touching anything but the base. Without that I've had issues with breaking metal minis at the ankles at times.
Finally caught up with this thread, and it's really time I should be going to bed :(
Sat down with my bf tonight to discuss exactly what we are getting from this KS, and it's not going to be one of everything like last time, which is a shame. I love all the minis that have come up so far, but we've got to prioritise which mins will see the most use so we've cut back on add-ons. The UK shipping is not helping that. (Don't get me wrong, I completely understand why Reaper have done the shipping the way they have, and I support their decision. But it does mean I get fewer minis for my $$ which gives me a sad.)
Still got $50 left unallocated in the pledge for the cool stuff that I know is coming. Depending on exactly what that is, that extra may rise...
We're still getting one of every dragon.
Well, ReaperPeeps have guesstimated the ruins between $20 and $50. My guess is $35-ish.
Why do you need to magnetize the bases of bones, or is this just for your metal minis? This isn't a critique, I'm just curious what the purpose is.
Well I will simply say this....Movement trays....
Those are the things for combining multiple units in war games? I saw a picture once. Cause it would have been a lot nicer if you'd just said a bit more than that since I've never played a war game.
You have been performing superheroics -- much appreciated! But please don't keep doing it if it is getting to you.
Nah, I'm good now; I took a break to listen to some music, and to get the grocery shopping done. It's both amazing and worrisome how therapeutic spending money can be, even if it's just for groceries. :lol:
Just a little ruffled?
Girl, to have through all of those comments, and still have your sanity must mean you're some kind of saint.
...Wait a minute! Feathers? Saint?
Admit it, one of the angel minis is based on you! [hoping it's not the hungry sorrowful one :;): ]
I can neither confirm nor deny anything, but if you tilt your head and kinda squint, you might possibly think you see that one of them only has one boot. :ph34r:
BONES FOR THE BONE GOD!!!
Finarfin about 2 hours ago
@Reaper Ok, imaginary case: Final hour, the servers are burning and when the dust settle, the money is enough to cover the last stretch goal. By a lot even, it would cover an hypothetical next goal. Could happen? It happened on the last KS?
Reaper Miniatures about 2 hours ago
@Finarfin - If we have one Shown yes. Otherwise it would be buried in updates, since changes to the front page cannot be made after 6pm Saturday (local time). We would want all available art to reflect the reality. Although, we looked and C'thulhu was only exceeded by $9k - his total was #3,415,000 and we made it to $3,424. This was not enough for another full goal
~~~~~~~~~

Randall Jackson about 2 hours ago

coming into the stretch, it's kinda hard to know whether to up the pledge by another $50 for one of the expansions, when it's only half revealed, and may not have much more added to it. are there any thoughts of splitting the expansions up for separate pledging if they are not fully funded?

Reaper Miniatures about 2 hours ago

@Randall - we have contingency plans, but right now we're very confident that they will be fully explored.

~~~~~~~~~
Wally about 3 hours ago
@Reaper - Do you know approx how many people 'starred' this kickstarter?
Reaper Miniatures about 3 hours ago
@Wally re: Starring: No, we do not have that data.
~~~~~~~~

If it's any comfort, I know that there are a couple of proper Elder-Gods lurking in the sculptors' art files, just waiting for the stars to align... I can't say which ones, of course, because then they'd appear and rain doom and destruction on us all.

~~~~~~~~~~~
(the following is repeated because of importance and relevance)
James Yeadon about 3 hours ago
@Reaper if a backer, such as myself, faced the awful proposition of moving house on Friday and being without the internet for a few days, and wanted to up his pledge to help meet stretch goals by enough to cover the ruins, would you be able to suggest a rough ball park for the increase???? :)
Reaper Miniatures about 3 hours ago
@James - wow... hard question. We're not supposed to share that, but you have a really good reason for asking. Less than $50 but more than $20
~~~~~~~~~~

Peter Wiles about 3 hours ago

I'm particularly interested by the expansion set idea. Has that idea been used in another kickstarter, or is Reaper the first?

Reaper Miniatures about 3 hours ago

@PETER WILES - we have seen similar ideas, but this our own variant on the execution thereof.

~~~~~~~~~~
Reaper Miniatures about 4 hours ago
@SGC - we have a detailed explanantion of pledging using the PLedge calculator in the FAQ here:
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1513061270/reaper-miniatures-bones-ii-the-return-of-mr-bones/…
~~~~~~~~

Izzy "Talin" Collier about 4 hours ago

@Kyle: The family resemblance to Shudde M'ell is there, absolutely. As is a resemblance to the Dholes, and bits and pieces of other Lovecraftian (and Lovecraftian "extended cannon") creatures. The original sketch of Mashaaf had a mass of chaotic pincers, tentacles and legs atop her maggot-body - a bit more of a cross between a Dhole/other worm-creature, and Shub-Niggurath.

The creature was certainly meant as a tip-of-the-hat to Lovecraft (as was Brian Lumley's work), and was drawn from the same conceptual well of elements and influences. It was not meant as an attempt at plagarism.

~~~~~~~~~~
Reaper Miniatures about 4 hours ago
@Athena - We plan to begin shipment to retail and distribution immediately after the end of fulfillment, so it should be 2-3 weeks after the last wave.
~~~~~~~~

breegull about 4 hours ago

@reaper what are the odds of us seeing pathfinder hook ogres? Are those a possibility or is there any licensing/business thing that will prevent that from happening?

Reaper Miniatures about 4 hours ago

@Breegull - we have talked about it, but WizKids does them, and we do not want to step on their toes. Although strictly speaking we are competitors, we have a mutual respect and admiration, and would hate to damage that.

Trying to get an answer from ReaperBryan regarding how thick the bases are. Please stand by....

Yes and some of them are metal so the magnets will help them stay in formation. Other uses would be to make them modular. So you could detach the mini from the base incase you have a fancy display for said miniature. This way you can attach a really nicely painted miniature thats display quality and put it on a game regulation base. Whether it be wargames or RPG. These of course are just a couple uses for magnets.

For my fellow Boneheads:

Sung to the tune of Judas Priest’s Sinner

.

.

.

Reaper rider, rides in with the Bones
And Sophie rides beside him
Sophie is his goddess, God help you mourn
Do you, do you hear it, do you hear the thunder
Deafen every living thing about
Can you, can you see it, can you
See the KS ticker yonder
Total’s rising, time is running out
.
Sacrifice to Bones or die by the hand of the
Reaper!, Reaper!, Reaper!, Reaper!
.
His steed of plastic,
Eyes of fire and mane ablaze
Demonic minis stalking
Drawn by the smell of brush and paint
He roams the Kickstart
Searching for the carcasses of tin
But if he's friendly then its very presence
Disrupts the calm into the storm
.
Curse and damn your wallet'll fall by the hand of the
Reaper!, Reaper!, Reaper!, Reaper!
.
God of the minis, God of the

God of the minis, God of the minis
Won't you help them make
God of the minis, God of the

God of the minis, God of the minis
Is there no more money
.
Can't you hear their fans calling out their desire
Can't you see their blood is boiling set comments afire
.
Twenty years now casting, so fine
Bones raises its head, and looks so divine
And Reaper does heed, sensing the need
And plastic will start movin' all around
.
Can't you see their fans calling out their desire
Can't you hear their blood is boiling set comments afire
.
...Reaper, Reaper, Reaper, Reaper!
Reaper!, Reaper!, Reaper!, Reaper!
.
Sacrifice to Bones or die by the hand of the
Pledge and post you all or fall by the hand of the Reaper!

@Sabith - Okay, I finally got an answer:

~~~~~~~
OneBoot 1 minute ago
@Bryan - But this is an important KS related question! How thick will the bases be, both Small and Medium? And is the recess for both about the same, 1mm?
Bryan Stiltz just now
@oneboot - same thickness as our square bases. About .75mm lip. I don't have calipers that small though so that's a guess
~~~~~~~~~

Does anyone have any of their square bases that they can measure? I don't have any or I'd do it myself. :(
