Bones Kickstarter #2 Discussion

Sad thing for my family is we pledged what we knew would go through. We know we will likely come up with the rest of the money in time for the closing of the pledge manager. Sadly though it is of no help for unlocking things. We are looking right now at needing about another $40 dollars for what we want. And with that we already almost at 100 past our previous pledge. I am so excited about everything here and this stuff all looks great to me.

Forgot to mention I'm signing out for the evening to spend time with Husband. :)

I also won't be back on until sometime tomorrow afternoon, since I actually have work for tomorrow! So either y'all will have to wait until then for the next digest, or someone else will have to pick up the baton until then. ^_^

Huzzah!

--OneBoot :D

But... but... but... you're inoculated against the crazy.

I fear for what would happen to the rest of us should we go diving in like you do.

How do you think Buglips came into being? He was a perfectly normal goblin until he learned to read and praticed on the KS comment section.

That's why we keep him around, as a warning to others!

For those talking about magnetic bases, check litkoaero.com too. They sell both magnetic 'flex' sheets and cut pieces in bulk in various sizes/shapes that come with adhesive on one side that you attach to the bottom of your bases...

The stuff I'm really happy to see:

  • I'm loving the dungeon decor, and more is always welcome :)
  • I'm glad to see the cultists in there - those guys are great! They fit in just as well in fantasy and modern gaming. Cultists in other poses and other outfits would be nice, too - can't have too many cultists to save the world from!
  • At the risk of repeating myself, those town guards are a nice addition, and work just as well as bandits or thugs. I wouldn't mind seeing other factions of these sorts of characters in different uniforms.
  • I don't think it's been said enough, but the animals are great! I don't think I've ever had a low-level RPG adventure that some sort of animals couldn't come in handy for, and these also make splendid animal companions or familiars.
  • Those "Dungeon Monsters", old-school RPG monsters including a not-quite-carrion-crawler, are fantastic! I hope to see more like these!
  • The Gelatinous Cubes! Thanks, Reaper! The other translucent minis, shadows and water elementals, are also great! I hope we see some air elementals, too :)
  • I like the Pathfinder stuff... it's usually a bit over-the-top, but I don't mind.
  • I wouldn't buy the Pulp/Savage-Worlds stuff on its own, but I enjoy seeing it mixed into the fantasy stuff. The monsters are handy, some of the hero types could make good conversions to fantasy, and I wouldn't mind seeing some villains from that sort of line (a Not-Fu-Manchu, for example!)
  • Those little frog-guys from the Swamp Things, the were-rats from Oh Rats, those goopy devils (Lemures?) from the Devils set, the Derros, and the Kelpies from Under the Sea are cool! I would find excuses to use them all. And, I like seeing the mummies, zombies, and skeletons - sure, the first Kickstarter included a bunch of those, too, but I enjoy seeing more.
  • I almost never use Bugbears, Gnolls, or Ghasts, but I'm happy to see a bunch in this Kickstarter: I never really have any around when I do need them.
  • Lords of Darkness are great! I enjoy seeing these villain types, they're always useful as big-bad-evil-guys, boss monsters, and that sort of thing :)
  • The Angels are cool - I don't know what to do with them (aside from the weeping angels, those are no-brainer monsters in their own right, and make good gargoyles and stone golems), but they look great
  • I don't know what I'd do with the giant scorpion, Kraken, Goroloth, or Worm-God-thing, but they're such creepy eldritch nasties, I can't resist them!
  • The Police Phone Call Box is also irresistible, and the modern scenery is strangely cool, though I don't have any use for it at all. I don't have much use for the Bathalians/Kulathi so far, but I'm willing to pitch into this expansion to hopefully see more alien types... if nothing else, filling out this expansion with a few spare mind-flayer-alikes from some of the earliest Bones models and a few spare beholder-alikes from the first Kickstarter, could always come in handy!
  • The bases are a nice addition... I could probably get some similar elsewhere cheaper, but if they are conveniently available right alongside the Bones, I'll gladly scoop them up :)
  • It's good to see Mr. Bones and Sophie - it just didn't feel like a Bones Kickstarter until they arrived :) (I think Sir Forscale and Sgt. Forscale should be included for a change, as additional Bones mascots....)

Things I'm still hoping to see:

  • We've said it a zillion times, but those conversion bits, like weapons, accessories, and that sort of thing would still be great! I'd happily pick up a bunch extra sprues of these for conversion purposes.
  • More and more Lovecraftian nasties! I'd love to see Mi-Go, Elder-Things, Worms-That-Walk, and all sorts of the other usual suspects, as well as more of Reaper's home-grown additions to the Mythos.
  • Fantasy civilians/townfolk... the ones from the first Kickstarter were awesome :) I'd still like to see more, from all walks of fantasy life....
  • The mushroom-men are cute, but I still hope to see more plant-monsters (man-eating-plants, shambling mounds, oozes, and that sort of thing)... those are versatile and always useful.
  • Yetis/Sasquatches/Wendigos... these are fun for fantasy settings, could come in useful for a Lovecraftian pulp setting, and I would find it hard to resist finding some excuse to turn some loose on those poor Savage Worlds cowboy types :D
  • Ghosts... I never seem to have enough ghosts, wraiths, banshees, or what have you.
  • Mad-Max style Post-apocalyptic gangers that are ambiguous enough to be used in a couple different settings... with weapons swaps, those leather-and-spikes sorts could just as easily become an evil barbarian mercenary band, or sci-fi themed space pirates, or....

You people talk a lot. I mean, not as much as the KS comments, but a lot nonetheless. Stop talking and go pledge more. If you can't afford more, go spend time getting more money. Check your couch cushions, look under the seats in the car, pan handle, sell something, do whatever it takes to unlock those goals.

Now, I am going to go find a way to make some money...even if it is something I am not overly proud of or willing to admit to others.

Holy smoke.

Reading that KS update is pretty brutal. If someone is reading this @ Reaper please go give Bryan a hug or something. And a box of Timbits...or whatever Texans eat when they want to feel happy.

(I kind of agree with Jeff's analysis, and Bryan kind of blew up at him. Assumptions are made because we're armchair tacticians, just like sports fans. We deconstruct because we care. Is that weird? I think people are frustrated because we want Reaper to do well, so isn't that a good thing? Why with the yelling at your backers?)

Please don't hit me, I like it here.

I do agree that the "armchair tacticians" are just like sports fans: sitting on thier duffs and criticising someone on something that said sports fans could never do in thier lifetimes. We're at home stretch and I think more postivity is in order. Reaper has done alot to accomodations on the fly for what people have wanted since the KS has started (which I imagine is no small feat) and I think it's time for us all to just sit back and let them do thier thing.

I want to go to bed, but I can't go to bed until the next unlock, so I ran a rough estimate of how much I'll end up spending, and then put that into Kickstarter proper.

I really hope the last 48 hours is more people moving their pledges up so that they don't miss out on the solidified awesomenesses that are the add-ons.
