Bones Kickstarter #2 Discussion

Holy smoke.

Reading that KS update is pretty brutal. If someone is reading this @ Reaper please go give Bryan a hug or something. And a box of Timbits...or whatever Texans eat when they want to feel happy.

(I kind of agree with Jeff's analysis, and Bryan kind of blew up at him. Assumptions are made because we're armchair tacticians, just like sports fans. We deconstruct because we care. Is that weird? I think people are frustrated because we want Reaper to do well, so isn't that a good thing? Why with the yelling at your backers?)

Please don't hit me, I like it here.

Some of it is that for years, literally years, Reaper has always had a certain cadre (yours truly once a member until he learned better) who are all too eager to tell Reaper "this is wrong, do X". And almost every single time those people are wrong.

Now, as an exercise, take a minute to think this through. You're running a business. For profit. Most of the time, what you plan and do works out and makes money. For an entire decade you hear people tell you what to do, and in almost every case what they suggest will fail and what will succeed is the exact opposite of what happens.

How much of that would you put up with before your temper wore thin? Now you know why it aggravates.

Yeah, you've got to remember when guys like Bryan get annoyed it's not because they are getting one or two people disagreeing with/moaning at them, they are getting dozens of them and new ones everday who bring up the exact same issue they dealt with the day before from somebody else.

It's like water torture.

I'm not kidding when I say I was one of those, either. And the sole victory I have to my credit is the change from the sample paint pot string to full bottles in the learn to paint kits. And that was only because of supply issues.

In every other case, I was dead wrong. I said Bones would fail. I was convinced that was a purely idiotic move.

So now I just shut up and trust Reaper to do their thing, because I got got tired of being armchair wrong.

You don't have to like every thing, and Reaper is open to suggestion - but there is also a reasonable limit. I think, particularly with this KS, that limit has been exceeded. And, if we're going to argue about considerations to be granted, it's time for people to stop flogging the dead horse.

gah! the KS thread is poison.

I get that it is a little weird to do greys (as an obvious shot at mantic) when it could've been robots or something, but the backers are straight up being rude. it's like they are offended by something they can simply choose not to buy.

oh, i know (i have probably seen everything reaper has ever made), but the choice to include them at this critical juncture has to be more than coincidence (reaper doesn't do coincidence). they went all out with the greys when their biggest competition happens to be very similar aliens? no, that was a calculated move, especially devoting 9 models to them when the available range is so deep. not that i disagree with it, though, it may be a smart business move. time will tell.

The greys are not Mars Attacks. They're not blowing off Mantic. It's silly to say they are.

As for complaints: my two bits: watch everything Reaper does, and take notes, because they are very, very good at what they do. If you ever aspire to do anything in the industry, imitate them.

Supposition. For all we know, that stretch goal was finalized back in May. Or even earlier. This KS has been planning for some time.

Don't be too quick to ascribe malice to the introduction or expansion of an existing product.

ETA: Particularly when Reaper has not only established that it's a good member of the mini community and plays well with others, but that they have also given us a whole, unmolested forum almost entirely dedicated to other miniature kickstarters.

Hardly the actions of a shady, underhanded company.

Me ish agree. I get the same feeling as with "climate sceptics". There are people with the specific skills to work on this. They use a lot of time working on it. Only reasonable that their ideas are more thought trough than "ours" ! :)

Have to agree anyone who thinks the greys weren't a quick kick to Mantics nuts is sadly mistaken. A bit dissapointed, that Reaper have used underhand tactics like that. Reminds me of another miniature company.

To be fair, Mantic has produced a fair share of cheaper minis that work well with the gaming system of a certain Evil Empire...

Could very well be but it is very convenient though.....but that's my mis-trusting mind and business is business

I added some info to my post in an edit. Reaper pretty much promotes (even backs) or allows to be promoted competing companies kickstarters. Underhanded just doesn't jibe.
