to be clear, i never said it was "underhanded" or even a bad idea. that is the nature of business. don't presume, though, that any business is above that type of decision or inherintly altruistic and "above the fray". after all a lot of what reaper makes are "not" models inspired by the IP of other companies, and not necessarily with their blessing (hasbro). Mantic pays the bills by blatantly ripping off their entire business model.

again, this is not a bad thing, it is the foundation of the free market and innovation. i fail to see what is underhanded about offering a sensible alternative that may appeal to a casual gamer.

I think they just gave us probians because probians are cool. Hell, we could say they made 'em for It Came From Beyond the Still.

On a more important note - the implications and hints dropped suggest a BIGGER THAN KALADRAX offering.

Given my 7-day adventure with Kally, I have been specifically called out by Bryan to answer the challenge with this newcomer. I'm quite curious to see what it is.

I don't find a lot of this kickstarter appealing in terms of what is on offer, but there can't be any debate that if you want the minis you'll not see better value for your money.

The core set is 100% a winner, as are the add-ons. My only criticism is the use of expansion sets this go around. It's a calculated gamble Reaper is taking, I hope it pays off. If it doesn't we won't see Expansions again and we'll see something else. My disappointment is with there not being options got me to get all the minis I want easily. I want to be able to spend more money, but the expansions just don't offer me the flexibility I need. I would happily spend a higher cost per model to buy models in smaller sets.

Reaper is never going to make everyone happy, I accept that. One thing I do know is that they are a stand up company who do their best to accommodate. The problem with giving and giving is people start lining up to take and take and it doesn't matter how much you give there is always an expectation that you should give more. Generosity inspires loyalty, but also greed.

Kickstarter is about funding up front in order to get something cheap in return down the line. It is about raising capital for Reaper to expand their line and in return they give their backers value for their investment. Those of you verbalising that kickstarter works like a donation and that we're lucky to be getting something in return are sorely out of touch, kickstarter does not work that way in the least. Reaper has put up their offer, people have chosen whether or not to support their project, the project has been funded, Reaper shouldn't be anything but happy. No-one needs to get angry or emotional, you back it or you don't, end of story; likewise the Reaper peeps need to stay calm and collected and not react negatively to those out there Trolling for a response so that they maintain their professional image (something I value about reaper).

I had to rant. I am feeling better now that I have eaten a large handful of lucerne hay and pooped on the floor.

The Expansions are magic. By casting Efficiency on the process, they allow Reaper to unlock a LOT more moulds from the same amount of money.

i'm with smokingwreckage on this. i think the CEs are genius.

reaper gets to make more molds for less commitment, and simultaneously ensure that many of their customers who like some but not all of a CS will buy bones at retail.

customers get more for their money if they want to buy in on a CE - they are far better value than add-ons if you want most of the stuff. the CEs allow for molds that wouldn't otherwise be feasible because of their size, and best of all they give us more flexibility. people who don't want the core can grab an expansion for a lower price point etc.

I would pay $50 for 7-8 sets of Derro, but I won't pay $50 for Expansion 1. Thus Reaper loses out on my $50 altogether (actually probably on much more because I'd like quite a few hordlings and others as well).

The Expansions are a good idea. But if I don't want that bundle Reaper could still benefit from my money by letting me pay I higher price per individual model and in doing so getting to pick and choose. Logistically more difficult, yes, but I'd pay a premium for it.

The project is a success, I'd merely like the chAnce to put more money in the bank and get more minis I am interested in.

Like I said, they can't please Everyone. I can live with their decisions.

Yeah, and if they go for a Bones 3 it'll be interesting to see how they work it.

EDIT: I was just being the goat! "See this goat? It doesn't get into arguments on the internet because it eats hay and poops where it stands and sometimes climbs on your car and bleats at you like it's done something amazing when really it's scratched the paint and pooped on the roof. And it can't type because hooves."

so buy them at retail then. win-win.

good price, for you and reaper, and you get exactly what you want and nothing else.

re, the grey aliens: I follow the fantasy and chronoscope request threads pretty closely, and one of the things this KS has excelled at is bringing a lot of those requests to the bones line. While I can't say that the grey aliens are a huge request, I know they've been requested zo it makes a certain amount of sense that they would include them in the chronoscope package. I for one, like that package and if I had the funds would get it. Darn lack of moneys.
