I wasn't sold on CE 3 when it was just the shipping container group (despite cool police call box), but this last addition pushed it into a definite purchase.

Reading that KS update is pretty brutal. If someone is reading this @ Reaper please go give Bryan a hug or something. And a box of Timbits...or whatever Texans eat when they want to feel happy.

I'm still on the fence with the 3rd expansion. I don't (currently) run any sci fi, but...

 

I think there's a clear distinction between grey aliens and the mars attack ones. The greys are more x-files/modern and less pulpy. Also, someone in the KS comments suggested they could be Stargate Asgard as well.

 

I can understand the overall sentiment that Reaper is dipping into the market (and the overall market saturation) for aliens- but I would imagine that those who want aliens for a specific gaming purpose might be discriminating enough to want one type over another. For those of us that don't currently have an alien need to fill, all aliens might look the same to us.

 

More options, in my opinion, are better!

The grey aliens aren't really my style, but I love the Bathalians. I'm not quite sure what I'll end up doing about it.

 

I think I may re-allocate my $50 to other add-ons for now, and see if I change my mind between now and the end of this ride - It happened with the "Heroes and Villains" option. (Reading the discussion here and closely re-examining the pictures moved me from "no thank you" to "I'll take two!".)

Sci-fi blerg! I knew it was coming, but I was hoping it would have more Zazzle! Or be cross-compatible with fantasy. CE#3 is looks less like something I'm going to want to get. But that's fine, because I am already in this thing for waaaay more money than I anticipated I'd be at the outset.

 

I had this impression that I would just get a core set, and that would be enough for me. Now I'm picking and choosing what I have to sacrifice to keep it under 500. And seriously eyeing increasing that pledge. I think I've cut all I'm willing to, and am going to have to start adding more money instead, now.

I'm all for some cheap plastic aliens in the new expansion. I'm almost tempted to get TWO of Expansion #3 at this point. (It depends on what else gets revealed before the KS is over.) Thanks to the Kulathians, I finally have some aliens suitable for my IMEF troopers to take on ... but the greys give me something pulpier that would work either with modern X-files-type stuff (or sillier stuff, such as my Government-Agents-in-Black), or else with retro-pulp (Slipstream RPG, with Duke Jones, Betty the Space Heroine, and Dee-Dee the Astro Girl). Variety. I like it!

 

I'm anxious to see what's next. Something ROBOTIC would be nice. I was really hoping we'd get something from CAV in here. (I don't play CAV, but a CAV bot would work just as well for a "killer robot" with a little imagination and repurposed scale. I.e., cockpit becomes sensor pod.) Some sort of vehicle would be nice, too. Or, hey, "blast doors." Can't get enough of those. :) At this point, though, as close as we're coming down to the wire, I'm just anxious that we even REACH that point before it's all over.

I think the Grays look like revealed Dopplegangers to use in my fantasy games. Not sure about the saucer but they will make a gang of 'gangers.

Such a confusing morning! Unexpectedly early update with new reveal. New reveal is something I've seen asked for. Log on here expecting to bask the the squees and get several pages of bizarre rantiness instead.

 

It's enough to make ME suspicious about people's intentions (and I don't mean Reaper) cuz huh??

 

Is the stress getting to everyone? I am handing out hugs and cookies! Can we go back to having fun now?

 

BTW I know I have little squee traction since I've already confessed that I'm buying at least one of everything. I don't care if it's a sculpt of moldy bread; it's mine! But HolyCowAFlyingSaucer!!!

That's the cool thing about Doppelgangers... Any miniature works! I actually JUST finished a mini intended as a revealed doppelganger last week. I opted for a more human look, with the inhuman aspect being achieved with color, instead of an odd sculpt.

 

CE#3 makes me think of X-COM, what with all the terrain (you hide behind a lot of cars, shipping containers, and dumpsters in that game) and ESPECIALLY now that they've added greys. That saucer is interesting... think it will actually have the clear plastic dome on it? And does that pose its own set of molding and casting challenges?

I'm not a huge fan of the aliens, mainly because I'm more of a high fantasy than a sci fi kind of guy, I will admit though that when I look at the bathalian I see some hydralisks waiting to happen. Hmmm....

A dome that shape and size shouldn't be any problem at all. It's basically one half of what's been in just about every gumball/gashapon machine for years
