Bones Kickstarter #2 Discussion

Walnut Brown or Brown Liner? I ask, because I was recommending the Walnut but then some people discovered adhesion issues. Upon investigation, I had the same. I generally use Brown Liner in place of Walnut Brown, which is why I never caught it. So if the walnut gives you any grief, try the brown liner. It'll do the same job, but won't have any peel or flake issues. The walnut (and other problem colours) seem to work okay if put on over an undercoat. There's just something about that small handful of MSPs that makes them not stick well to Bones.

ETA - related to this, when I was pre-blacklining Yephima I had severe hydrophobic reaction to my coat d'arms black. I know she was washed properly, because I scrubbed her good. But she still looked a bit oddly shiny. One or two of my other Bones are like this, too.

I decided to switch to brown liner and coat her all over with it, to see if it helped. And it did - went on solid. So the stuff is a pretty handy problem solver for all kinds of issues. I didn't see any of the same hydrophobic reaction. Which, I'll note, was a weird thing to see - the CDA black isn't watery at all. I was astonished. But my buddy Brown Liner came to bail me out.

*hugs brown liner*

Never leave me. Promise you'll never leave me.

Right now the Walnut only causes a few issues, but nothing irritating. I don't have brown liner and can't afford to buy any currently. I'll try and talk my mom into buying me a bottle or two. She has the money I lack currently. It was still a good tip. I have a few other colors I noticed not having a problem of sticking I could use them possibly as well.

I'm still learning a LOT about painting. My father heavily discouraged my painting when I first started saying I was wrecking the minis. So I eventually stopped painting for about 10 years or so and now I'm trying to learn all I can to paint really nice minis I can play with.

Mine will probably be the Gelatinous Cube.

*paints glossy sealer on it*

Done!!

...Wait, that doesn't count?

I really need to stop reading the forums and finish eating my dinner (yes, at nearly 3am... >_>).

Because I read your post as, "Paints glossy sweater on it."

And I was sitting there imagining a gelatinous cube in a Christmas sweater and...

Okay Klawzie. I may now have to figure out a way to make or paint on something like an oversized Christmas sweater on a cube...

Cool, if the walnut's working then no need to stop. Just wanted to let you know about potential weirdness, and a fix if said weirdness should occur.

Should you find yourself in a bind, though, without brown liner, you might be able to stabilize the walnut by adding something else to it. Rainy grey ought to work, if you have that. Ashen blue, oiled leather, earth brown also. Any known non-problem MSP you have will do. Those are stable MSPs so far as I know and might help in a pinch. Say about 50/50 for your basecoat.

I have oiled leather. I will keep the fixes in mind. I find painting minis very relaxing so I don't think I could ever have too many. Main issue is finding enough ways to store them. My family once owned a couple hundred minis including one very cool undead dragon my mom painted. Sadly they were all stolen so we had to start from scratch.

Which mini will y'all plan on painting up first?

I'm probably going to use some Tamiya Clear mixed with either Tamiya Clear Blue or Tamiya Clear Yellow to give either a faint blue, or a faint yellow hue to the translucence. I was about to suggest I buy two cubes, but then I realised I'll have two slimes ready for testing that out on : )

YAY! We made the translucent purple! Now we just have to wait for Bryan to awaken and update! I am so giddily eager for the next reveal or another trick

Edit: Whoops! Forgot we have a trick currently. Then I can't wait to get the Barbarians!

For those of you awake at this ungodly hour, Bryan posted about 8 minutes ago that he was awake and driving in to update (I thought he was sleeping there...?)

I don't know what you mean about the hour, it's not even 11pm yet. - Doesn't everyone in the world operate on GMT+13?

But seriously, someone needs to introduce Bryan to remote access to the work servers. Kit!! Bryan needs remote access to the work servers, and no this isn't a nightmare, it'll be a good thing - probably.

EDIT

Oooh Bryan's revealed everything - in a good way, minds back out of the gutters please! Family forum here.

If you haven't seen it yet go look first before reading any further.

Does the shininess on the Demon Lord of Minotaurs indicate a digital image of a digital sculpt? It's huge! And the detail doesn't stop. Buckles anyone?

Dracolisk

Frog Demon

And a couple of clues that there's a Basilisk or Gorgon around the corner.

And who pixelated the Barbarian girl? Be fair, give him the treatment too, he'll get a complex, have confidence issues, and his health plan doesn't cover counselling. Not that it's anything we haven't all seen on the cover of National Geographic, or in a wardrobe malfunction at the superbowl, or in Game of Thrones, True Blood, ...
