Bones Kickstarter #2 Discussion

We have been asking for a rather mixed bag of minis, and "big monsters" was decidedly a theme.

Good point, I had forgotten that they had themed it as "Big Monsters" when I saw the freebie add-on with zombies and lions and said. "Huh?"

Now, if they unveil a tarrasque or something for the $1.6 mill expansion reveal, that could change things up considerably.

Stop making suggestions of things that I would throw money at. Please?

The one thing I want more than anything as a miniature for my game table is the Tarrasque. I might even pick up two! One to mod and play around with of course.

How could I ever forget about the Terrasque! PLEASE REAPER, OH PLEASE!! I will just give you my credit card...

If we want to get geeky and historical, the "original" Tarasque was a legendary french turtle-like dragon beast of yore, and we already have a turtle-dragon. ::P:

Edit: Oh right, I forgot: "MORE DRAGONS!"

Nope I want them all pretty much. There are some I can see that I will never want that are add-ons like the Greater Demons and Devils as well as the Water Elementals. Not because I wouldn't use them but I just don't like the sculpts. The other sculpts I am pretty much loving so far, even if I can't think of a use for them right now I am more than happy to throw money at them since maybe in the future I might. I mean really can I ever have too many cool dragon sculpts? If they had put some "meh" dragons maybe I would be less excited but the dragon sculpts are all cool even if I don't really need them.

Didn't Gencon fall within the first Kickstarter?

Some kind of convention did. Maybe it was Reapercon.

Gencon fell inside the KS1 campaign. I remember gee king out over it with Reaper fans while I was there. ReaperCon fell inside the original shipping/fulfillment period, allowing some people to pick up their vampire boxes cases and paint early.

I probably have a budget of about 200$ (don't tell my wife!) but am at only 110$ at the moment (probably 22$ more for the giants and the first dragon). Because the rest of the budget will go to shipping even if I am pretty sure I will dodge customs with that amount here in Argentina.

So, less money for hitting your stretch goals ::P:

My wife's opinion on what I am spending concerns me as well. When she brings up the cost, I am going to just point to one of the many redundant pairs of shoes sitting in her closet.

My wife knows I'm in for Bones 2. She doesn't however know how much I'm in for. Mostly because I'm not sure yet. I went in for $300 on Bones 1 and was hoping to hold it down to a similar amount this time. With the great add-ons, that is not looking likely. At least I don't have to bring up the shoe argument. She's scotts-irish and fairly frugal. That and I'm getting her a new laptop for her birthday so I will have have that good will going for me.

As far as the other topics go, I'm just excited to see what is in store next. I've liked most things so far (to the point that I may have to start triage on what I get vice what I want) and there are still weeks to go.

Also, I am glad that the forums are back. I tried to participate in the comments on the KS page but they were just so fast I couldn't keep up. Well I could have used Q and Z codes but I pretty sure I wouldn't have gotten many replies.

You have to admit that there are a heck of a lot of variables involved that make calculating RoW shipping a pain in the neck. That one extra miniature that you add due to knowing the up front shipping cost could have a back end effect on shipping. It isn't realistic for anyone to expect Reaper to be able to calculate or even estimate shipping all over the world when that one extra miniature could have siginficant effects on shipping costs to country X, and no effect when shipped to country Y.

There are not a lot of variables, since we can do that with only one shipping calculator... USPS. That is why I know what to expect (more or less). So yes, it is realistic to estimate shipping to all over the world, because, you know... they already kinda did when pointing us to the USPS calculator and giving an estimate on weight and size for the Vampire KS1 box.

With regards to shipping:

I don't think the whole "if you don't like it, don't participate" angle is as helpful to the discussion as one might hope.

I don't think I've seen that. I have seen (and said), "if it doesn't make sense for you, don't back". That's just good fiscal advice. However, as you have correctly pointed out, many people are hung up on their own perception of what is fair for them. This does not mean they are right, or that it is good from a business perspective.

You can't reason with the unreasonable, and catering to them to the detriment of your business helps no one.

I... really enjoy being called not right (because you obviously are, I guess... to your own perception of fair), or unreasonable. Thanks.

Eh... I might be in the minority, but a tarasque doesn't really excite me. It always struck me as more of a "bogey man" for the DM to threaten players with, than something that would actually be used (at least in AD&D 2nd Ed.; I don't know about other iterations). Still, if Reaper makes one I suspect I'd wind up getting it because I'm sure it would look awesome. ::P:

I hope we see some more devils to fill out their ranks. The different demon groups had descriptors though (lesser, etc.), and since the devil group doesn't maybe that isn't planned...

Yeah it's a cool looking creature but I would never have a reason to use it. I don't know if I could resist buying one but if I did I think I would probably end up thinking better of it later and then selling it.

I think for some like me the real problem with the shipping uncertainty is, its a buzz kill.

I totally understand the reality of the situation and I know its going to be clearely defined before its over ..but the not knowing how much to set aside is a major buzzkill where the rest of this is just a fun rush.

From a practical perspective I've written off cases this time (size and weight)and maybe paint sets due to weight but will have to reweigh 12 bottles and try and see how that factors in.

If I'm still obsessing over it by the weekend I'm just gonna stick 80bucks in envelope and pin it over my monitor labeled..SHIPPING IS PAID! QUIT WORRYING ENJOY THE RIDE. ^_^

But you have to want a majority of them to make it worthwhile. Personally, I wanted the Dragon Turtle to come out in bones. But now, to get it, I need to also pick up a bunch of other items I am not sure I want or care about - or hope that enough other people add the expansion that it makes it to retail.

No matter what Reaper chose (themed, unthemed, fantasy, Chronoscope, whatever), *someone* wasn't going to be happy.

Wow. That's quite a leap, considering I wasn't responding to you, and didn't target you in any way with my comments. Perhaps you are internalizing a bit? I'd be happy to have an actual conversation with you about this, rather than you just tossing off a passive-aggressive post that doesn't help anyone.
