Phew. Reaper Kit announced shortly after midnight Texas time that the forums will be being migrated to a new server today and offline for a little while.

(I am not officially anything or in the loop, so the rest of this is deductions.)

I am guessing they need to deal with exponentially increased site traffic owing to the wildly successful first and now second Bones kickstarter.

Yesterday's Bones II opening day blew past a lot of goals, possibly faster than they expected. At the moment (5:30 AM Texas time, less than a full day after launch), the pledge totals are over a million dollars.

If their site is offline for part of today, people may be concerned. So Kit gave us a heads-up.

I have no idea how long this has been in the planning stages, but knowing how forethoughtful the Reaper folks are I am guessing it's been a contingency for a while.

I would guess it was triggered by yesterday's massive activity. Better to be offline for a brief time on Kickstarter Day 2 than strain the servers and risk crashing as hundreds of new people show up.

I don't think he said when they would be porting the forums (I'll double check in a second). So whenever it is, see you at the new place.

I worked hard for all my likes ::P:

I worked lazily for all my likes. But I'm right there with you. When Topless Robot changed it's commenting and I lost my likes? Well.... I just didn't like it. ;p

And Pingo, you are letting the team down, your post to like ratio is far below what I would have expected. You've got to stop this community service stuff and get back to posting cool stuff. I mean look at Buggy he's almost at a 1:2 ratio of posts to like, which for a goblin is amazing.

I'm going to like your post here, just to bump up your count a little and get you a bit closer to the coveted 1:2 post:like ratio.

Huh, I woulda though Pingo's post to like ratio was much higher, just based on that Pingo Builds a Boat topic where I liked just about everything she posted. If I could have liked each individual picture I would have. That's a seriously beautiful boat.

Plus her little snippets of info on painting stuff are so useful. We should have a pinned thing called Pingo's Encyclopedia of Useful Painting Information. Where she builds a boat.

Many people have a better like to post ratio than me, I just post in outrageous volume so it adds up more. If I make 40 posts a day (happens) and get an average of 2 likes per post, then that's 80 in one go. I try to be generous doling them out, too.

Ironically, I thought the like system was a stupid idea. But it corrupted me.

And weirdly, the people who give me the most likes now aren't the same people who gave me the most likes a year ago. I think I'm mostly skirting by on the generosity of newbies. Other people are too used to me. I haven't had a like from some people for ages. Months!

They just don't love me any more.

Or they think I've got enough.

ETA: Also, the system didn't always exist. Based on # of posts, had the system existed all along, more people would have more ridiculous numbers. I just happened to come along and do most of my volume after it was implemented.

And I joke about likes, and like hunger, but mostly they're only useful for me to gauge what sort of things people enjoy and provide more of that. What I really get out of this board are the personal associations. It's nice to be respected and liked by people I respect and like. I'd be the same without any likes. Although I will admit that like hunger motivates me to make threads like the Kaladrax WIP... so there's that.

The more you reward and encourage me, the more I will do to entertain you. It's my nature.

The like patterns are a wild beast, and it seems to me subject to the whims of chaos. Which is why I don't pay much attention to how many likes one post gets vs. another. Because I might begin to draw inferences that weren't actually there... and the only thing to come form that is me spending time over thinking stuff, when I could be painting.

Don't worry, Paint minis

Down for several hours This is terrible, and right into day 2 of their major kickstarter, How are we supposed to get through those few hours without the forum? HOW??? I'll have to look at kickstarter comments, but those are nearly impossible to follow, this is awful, just awful, my evening is ruined!!!
