Welcome to the "2013 Halloween Contest!"

We need Autumn, and we need the monsters that come out then too! So, let's have a painting contest to get those monsters out and scaring everyone like they should!

General Rules:

Entries must be made by Reaper. Bones AND Metal miniatures are more than welcome in the contest!

Entries must be in by Octobeer 31st at 11:59 pm CST

Enter as many times as you want but only one prize can be awarded per person.

Each entry needs to be uploaded to the appropriate thread. Please attach your entries using the forum uploading feature or hotlink from the Inspiration Gallery. We want to make sure they're visible at all times.

You may submit between one and four images of each entry. They do not need to be stitched into a single image file.

Digital enhancement ("Photoshopping") of your entry is strictly prohibited.

No clone brush, healing brush, airbrush, or other brush work. Fix your paint with paint, not with Photoshop.

No adding or removing background elements from the image

If you add a logo or a watermark Reaper cannot use your image in their gallery. Note that if your image is selected for the Reaper gallery, you will be credited by name under the image.

Cropping, global color balance, and global level adjustments are allowed ("global" means "the entire image." You may not "pop" colors by only selecting some areas for level adjustment.

You are allowed to enter miniatures that will also be entered into other contests that might overlap ours.

We are not going to police your entries as to when they were started\finished. We hope that people would paint something for this contest and not just enter something they finished a while ago as this is a fun and friendly contest.

The judges or Reaper reserves the right to remove entries if deemed inappropriate, but we're pretty laid back here and this is just to cover our butts.

The judges and Reaper can clarify and amend rules at will.

Theme:

Fall and Halloween. I put equal weight with a fall themed elf and a terrifying C'thuloid or vampire. All are acceptable. Define what part of the theme you're working with as part of your post, even if you're painting Dracula.

There are no specialized categories. Teams, dioramas, and single miniatures are all equally accepted as part of the contest.

Basing & Modding Rules

You do not have to use Reaper produced stuff for your bits or for basing or for modification.

Given the short time frame, basic basing, even if it's just broccolli basing being painted or simply flocked, would be acceptable. We're focused on theme and painting, not what's on the ground.

Voting Guidelines

Judge gets to score a miniature between 1-50.

Criteria:

The entire model must be painted and based. The basing can be as simple as flock or as complex as you wish. Basing does not garner extra points, given the short time frame of the contest and slow-as-molasses-painters (such as myself!).

Judges: Myself and two hidden others will be the judges.

Winning:

If you submit a model, as far as I'm concerned you've already won something, much like the Cowardly Lion from the Wizard of Oz, you've gained some confidence if it's your first contest. If it's not your first contest, you win by getting to see the other minis painted! I like these contests, and the others who have run them before (or run exchanges) have already been amazing with their insight today.

However, given that winning might need a reward, here are the prizes we have been allowed as Reaper Store Credit:

1st: $50 Reaper Credit

2nd: $25 Reaper Credit

3rd: $15 Reaper Credit

Door prize: $15 Reaper Credit

The door prize is a random drawing with some criteria (you can't win twice in the contest!). It's important to note that there is only one group of prizes (so one first place prize, one second place prize, one third place prize, and one door prize). Thus, there will be four winners total for this contest.

And, as ShadowRaven pointed out, I forgot the most important rule of the contest: HAVE FUN!

Hi; this is Catdancer...I have a single Reaper female figure on a solo round base that I would like to enter in this contest (my 1st ever figure contest)...I read the rules (above) and do not know what over half of the stuff/rules mean, like (clone brush/healing brush/add-remove background elements/global level adjustments/pop colors/etc) and at this point in time...none of these are important to me...but the following is...What does this mean & how/where do I enter my solo figure?..." Each entry needs to be uploaded to the appropriate thread. Please attach your entries using the forum uploading feature or hotlink from the Inspiration Gallery. We want to make sure they're visible at all times. "...Can anyone tell me in simple language...how do I enter my solo figure in this contest..Thank you for any help in this matter.

Catdancer - That's all stuff that would artificially change your figure using software.

Basically if it's a Reaper figure that you take a picture of and don't adjust/change the image other than to account for some white-balance you will be fine.

Just go ahead and upload your picture(s) of your figure that you want to enter right here in this thread as you normally do in your own threads, by going to the MORE REPLY OPTIONS at the bottom right of the text box here and attach the files. You should be good to go.

ub3r_n3rd...Thank you for the very simple directions. I posted my solo figure (even if it is just to say...that I entered a figure contest). I hope that I did everything I needed to do correctly.

Looks good to me. ::):

You can enter up to four pictures of the same figure, though, so if you'd like to show her off from some different angles, just edit your entry and add them in. I wouldn't mind seeing more!

Okay, Mr. Bones' base is done (it took me more than 20 minutes, more like 20, but that's okay, Mr. Bones deserves the best!) and Mr. Bones himself is on-track for completion in 2-3 hours (I'm extremely bad at estimating how long it will take me to paint something).

EDIT: Forgot to say that it looks like the GS will actually be ready to paint much sooner than I'd anticipated. Yay!

Woo! I've never done speed painting like this before! It's fast, it's furious, it's messy, its...a lot of fun, actually. I should do this more often! ^_^ It's not perfect? Too bad, no time. Missed a mold line? No time to worry about it! It's very refreshing, actually. :)

Huzzah!

Awesome entry Vulture! Love the color contrasts of the different skin tones.

Thanks! I'm very happy with how he turned out with only two sessions. I was stalling out on him yesterday and then a nice big box of MSP paints showed up on my doorstep packed with skin triads XD.
