bblythe84
Alright normaly I like to keep what I am doing for contests and displays quiet, mostly because it keeps people from finding out I have no idea what I am doing. However I would like a slight critque on a technique that I decided to attempt her little orb is supposed to be showing a distant location I dont know if I pulled that off yet and as I have finished the base coats I would not mind hearing what you think about the over all look of the mini at this point. ShadowRaven
I like the look on the orb/crystal ball. I'm not sure if it's even possible, but I think a couple of clear layers of varnish on it would give it a look of depth
Inarah
I think it is a good start and the globe is a cool idea. I hope there is more differentiation between her fur and her dress as she looks like one big blob at this point.
bblythe84
Yeah I just saw that her fur color and her dress color were very close together the plan is to lighten up her fur quite a bit and change the hue of the dress some before ending. bblythe84
Alright takeing some of the very good advice and putting it to use in painting this step altered the color of her fur and began to pull the highlights on the dress not that noticable yet. I also did some higlighting on the scarf. The red line and "Eye" are my first real attempts at freehand and yes that is supposed to be a stylized eye. I would love any further advice from the community here. Also when my new paints get here I will add a few detials on her crystal ball.
prophetic_joe
Have I said before that I love Mouslings? Staying tuned here.
MonkeySloth
Color choice is much better now. Fur can be hard and I only seam to get it right about 50% of the time.
bblythe84
Should I paint her eyes true to life or more human?
Thrym
Since she is anthropomorphized she should probably have human like eyes.

bblythe84
Well on Elise, The Witch I decided despite the short time period that I would do her stockings sheer I dont know how well I will do thin it but I will try and attempt to finish her in time. The base coat on her stockings is err MSP sample I really wish those things had an acual name I love getting them but its hard to know what to put here or look for without a name. Nissiana
Not a bad start. This is one of those things where I find photo reference to be most helpful, so here's a sample courtesy of google image search (sheer black stockings) From where you are at the moment, it's going to take some thin layers of your fleshtone working up to points where the stockings are most sheer - like the tops of the knees. You're going to want to get a bit of that all over the stockings except the places where the fabric would be most dense, like the back of the knees. I'd start there - try to see if you can replicate the color value of the photo reference...the highlights and shadows are still present as they are in the flesh tones elsewhere, but everything is darker because of the fabric. Wrinkles and folds in the fabric help sell the effect (a pointer from Wren, who's most excellent at painting and teaching this technique - you might try searching the forums for some of her previous comments on painting sheers).
