This has been an odd kickstarter to follow. With all the other races added along the way, a person can almost forget it started out for elves.

I think people are trying to forget it is about elves. I like the elfin ascetic, but I get the dislike. They are definitely a different take on the concept.

That's where I'm at since so far I'm really not liking the elves. I will need to see a green of the kitsun swordsman before I put in for that as I hope its proportions are more "human" than what Stonehaven is calling "elven".

I haven't said it as I've already been negative enough in this thread but it's remarkable to see them switch away as soon as people stopped pledging.

I feel bad for Mike as I know he had been working on his concept for elves for quite a while before the kickstarter began. However as soon as I saw those first concepts I knew this wasn't for me even though I'm a huge fan of their gnomes, dwarves, and trolls.

 

I'm especially sorry to see the sculpts vary so much from the concepts in their styling.

Up to now the fact that Mikes concept art was reflected so strongly in his sculpts has been one of Stonhavens strengths. I used to be able to reassure new folks unfamiliar with the company that the sculpts would be pretty much spot on to the artwork. That's not something that can be said anymore.

 

Oh well. At least we have the trolls, pixies, gremlins, and kitsune to choose from.

Because of how off the sculpts have been in this Kickstarter I'm waiting until release as I really like the concept of the Destroyer (it's complexity has been what I've wanted Mike to move into) but I need to see it finished as it's only a profile and very complex to the point that I don't know what the final product will be.

I like the elves, I think the new take on them is unique and interesting from what's out and i have a ton of ideas for my games.

I disagree with darsc saying that concept to sculpt isn't spot on and the company's consistency now can't be recommended. I also feel its a pretty harsh call. One or two sculpts are different from the concepts as were one or two of the gnomes and dwarves and think its because you were more excited about those concepts that you wernt so displeased(not well worded on my end hope you get what I mean).

Seeing stonehaven move more towards other races in this KS I think is a straight up good business move. Alot of people didn't like the elf concepts and less so the sculpts so people didn't back. SH relized this and changed there strategy to get backers.

 

I for one like the direction of this whole ks but totally understand if people don't and I can see why

Sorry Shogun, but we're going to have to agree to disagree on this.

 

Slight changes to a mini here and there aside. Stylistically the dwarves matched the style of their artwork as did the gnomes with theirs. That is not the case with the elves. That I don't care for the styling of the Elven sculpts does not affect my ability to perceive that there is a difference.

I agree with Darsc, I find the greens far thinner and a little bit quirky compared to the concepts.

I was a big fan of their super-lanky take on Elves at first, but it just seems to go wrong somewhere in the sculpting phase, and we've ended up with some very weird greens (like that poor Weapons Master).

 

Its a shame, because I was planning on eventually ending up with a complete set of Stonehaven minis, but I dropped my completionist pledge a few days ago, I'll pick up the bits I like when they go on sale.

I think the Elven children set is a cute idea. I'll probably go in for those, just because I think the style of the greens so far, fits perfectly with a child miniature.

 

I was surprised the male Kitsune unlocked. A few backers dropped and then suddenly a mini rush happened. I've already put him into my pledge. If he matches the other elven greens, he'll really be fox like in "sleekness"
