Loim
I decided to do a small diorama base for Mr. Bones. After some brainstorming I decided I need a haunted tree. Here is the armature.
Loim
Bulking up the base with Milliput. Of all the sculpting mats I've used Milliupt is my least favorite.
Corporea
yeah- milliput's pretty grainy. but it does dry nice and hard- super for a tree armature. I like it so far!
Loim
I discovered about halfway in that if you wet the armature down the Milliput behaves much better. I got the technique for this from you Corporea :).
ShadowRaven
looks interesting so far. Look forward to seeing what you acomplish with it
trystangst
I know there's a few different "kinds" of milliput out there, but the kind I have (grey and yellow) almost dissolves in water. Which could be useful I guess, but makes me leery of getting it too wet.

Loim
I figured since there is some interest in this I would upload the concept art. It's a pretty rough sketch I hammered out when I started cooking up this idea.
Teskal
I decided to do a small diorama base for Mr. Bones. After some brainstorming I decided I need a haunted tree. Here is the armature. This version looks already very gnarled (knaggy, knobbed?). I would have used only a very, very thin skin of milliput on this tree. So you could still see the outlines of the wire. Goblyn
i like it, especially the face "i am gonna get you" i tried once a tree but i never finished
Corporea
Great concept art! Do you want the faces to look like faces or like knotholes cleverly placed to look like faces? I know that may seem a silly thing to ask- but I like the idea of "hidden" faces for the lower two- which it looks like you've got planned. Just curious. Also- how about for the branches- have a bark texture covering most, but leave the tips bare- like claws? Perhaps clawlike roots as well? vulture
great concept. it is odd that this idea hasn't been done much before, though, i suppose plant creatures as a whole are underrepresented.
Crimson_king_of_the_tower
Loim What type of wire did you use for the armature I've been wanting to make some trees for scenery
Loim
I use floral wire. The stuff I used for this one is the thread wrapped variety, but I don't recommend it. I just happened to have some because I found it on sale. Corporea has an amazing tutorial on building trees, and it's what I used for this and other trees I've made.
