happycamper
I hear folks using Testors gloss then Testors Matte finish (spray cans I think) to protect their painted minis (I'm doing Bones ones...) Would "Rust-oleum" sprays (gloss & matte finish) also work? (I can get them failry cheap and conveniently...) I was a bit concerned since I saw Acetone as one of the "ingredients"... bloodydrake
honestly I think you should just pick a bones figure you don't mind painting again if it goes wrong and do a quick basecoat over it and try a coating of gloss then let it dry and see if its tacky. if it is leave him soaking in simply green cleaner for a couple days then scrub him clean
aromaticpose
If you have any sprues (like from the familiars or goblins) or an integral base which you have cut off, use those for your testing. Don't take a chance on a whole model. Keep those scrap pieces lying around. You never know when you'll need to do a test on a new product or paint sample. Those scraps are a godsend for testing without worrying about the result.

I use them regularly on metal minis, but if you're painting BONES, don't bother. They're an enamel-type spray, and not flexible at all. Stick to acrylic brush-on varnish if you're varnishing BONES minis.

I guess I'll go looking for acrylic brush-on stuff. (Do I do the same thing - both a gloss and then a matte coat?)
dsmiles
Not strictly necessary, but that's what I do. I use Liquitex brand sealers.
