Popular Post Owlmabbitt
77139: Altar of Evil by Bob Olley painted by Owlmabbitt. I wanted to give the idea of an altar used for something bloody, but not often and not recently. So I've added 'moss', onto a granite-look rock, and then used red wash on the skulls and top to hint at partially-cleaned blood. Not a classy look, but a rough, used look. I'm rather pleased.

Owlmabbitt
That is sweet!! Awesome job, it definitely looks the part. How did you do the moss? I bought it - sorry. miniNatur Moss pads late fall. I assume they are for sets, terrain etc. I chose the very tiniest pads from the set and glued them on with PVA.
tommisalama
Sweet altar! I'm painting one myself now and was thinking of adding some moss to it. Nice to see it works very well, thanks!
Moderator TaleSpinner Posted October 22, 2013 Moderator Share Posted October 22, 2013 I really like the treatment you gave this piece. It looks very real.
Owlmabbitt
I was trying to go for real, not pretty so thank you all for comments. Pretty would have involved gold for the skulls, the 'faces' on the sides with a black altar, I think. Happy with what I did. :)
jdizzy001
The idea is sound and looks appealing. Just as a side note (which does not detract from the mini at all, but is merely a thought that crossed my mind). When blood ages, it turns brown. By mixing the red wash with a brown, you can create a more aged blood stain look.

I tried to use a 'old red' not a clear bloody red, but it should be slightly browner. shall think this through for the rest of the setting.
