Questions About the Kickstarter, now that it is over

Thanks for another great Kickstarter!!!

Put me on the list of those of us who appreciate the bases -- so much so that I pledged for a few extra packs. Question: they appear to be similar to bases that WoTC used for D&D minis (flat on one side, with a shallow lip on the other). Are they from the same manufacturer? It won't change my mind either way, I just want to know what to anticipate. The D&D minis bases were fairly rigid, but still a little flexible. How do these compare?

definitely not the same manufacturer. We will be making them in house on our machines. Probably a similar material to our current square and round slotted bases.

I have a question about the case in the Options list. It doesn't seem to correspond to the ones you currently offer, and going by your estimate of (usually/often) a 50% discount that would imply it's a $60 retail case (however you said the bottom end discount would be about 10%, so...)? It looks like it only has two layers, though, for a total of 60 minis. Is that right, or are there more layers than the 2 shown? Trying to compare to your current army case, which has 5 layers but doesn't specify how many slots per layer.

I don't really need a case, but if it's a sweet deal I might get one as a gift.

Someone mentioned earlier about not being notified about Bone 2 when they were a Bones 1 supporter. I didn't get notified either. I found out because another KS project postponed their start due to Bones 2. I went back and looked thru all my emails & spam, and I don't see anything... Anyway, thought I'd report it in case you want to survey your Bones 1 backers before you do your next KS.

KS 1 update #99 went out launch day announcing the new KS. Don't know what to say here.

Part of the issue maybe that an actual email was not sent but the kickstarter update to Bones 1 was. If people turned off the get update option then they would not have received the update.

I missed out on KS1 but got my Bones via pledge manager after I was informed of the awesomeness. So no email for me but I have FB and a few other outlets including my boss who was in KS1 and told me when he got his email.

We did an e-mail blast to our webstore customers, too...

This case and our army case are two very different things. The KS case is not available in any form at retail by us.

Does it just have the two layers of foam shown?

Yes, but they are deeper trays than the ones offered in KS1.

Just to clarify a little on the weight thing, and why it'd be useful to me and to other ROW backers.

Right now, I need to decide whether or not to get the shipment sent to a US based reshipper or not. To get good data, I need to know how much it'll weigh and to a lesser extent, how many boxes it'll be. The Reaper shipping deal looks like a really good deal to me and I thank you very much for offering it, but I've a few other other factors to consider.

One of those is the point that customs duties kick in. As there's a limit at which the NZ government basically says 'It costs us more to gather these taxes than we get back,' and doesn't bother (it's roughly $230 US), it makes sense to try and arrange things so that (a) I come under $230 including shipping per package and (b) don't pay more than I have to in shipping. Potentially it could make about $200 difference across two shipments for me specifically.

If you can't easily give those sort of details, or can't share them for commercial reasons, I'd completely understand. But if I don't ask, I won't get : )

In the end, how well the expansions behave? Will you repeat again?

preliminary data within parameters.

As for repeat, asking how future Ks are formatted May be a tad premature. We new no just sales data but fulfillment reports from the floor to see what our changes impacted.

I mean, you don´t know already the last stretch goal on KS3? :P But I guess that if the answer is not "hell, no, it was a mess", is enough answer

With the current technology of bones, what would be the bigger miniature you could create? I guess it has practical limits on the size. I guess that Kaladrax is the biggest mini right now, what would be the biggest mini you see yourself wanting/creating? (beware, highly hypotetical question)

I´m the only one that enjoy the idea of all the numeric data behind these projects? :D

I just want to outline the reason I am asking before the question.

When adding 2 x DDS2 to my pledge (one for me, and one for a friend), the postage to Australia ended up at $60. However, when I took the terrain out, it reduced down to $5. So to the question:

  • will you be selling the terrain pieces separately
  • if so, about how much do you think they will retail for (a range from min to max would be fine).

Just trying to work out the worthwhileness of the terrain, and this will help me.

Thanks

I guess we could probably do something about 3' long, based on the largest thing we have ever seen them produce while visiting their factory - they have one really big machine that could do it. As cool as it is, I don't know that there's a gamin market for a mini that covers 50% of the table... I personally don't even know what we'd do at that size that would be popular enough to warrant hundreds of thousands of dollars in molds.

One reason shipping is slightly cheaper in parts is because as a unit, you're getting it in a box. in parts, you're not. Also, in parts, we can squish it into less space, and as a box, it requires a new "layer" to the package, which in some cases might be enough to push your order into multiple boxes.

We will probably offer the terrain separately for a short time - right now we have to look over the popularity data and have a long meeting about that idea. Individual MSRPS have not been established for those.

During the last week of the KS you gave a few hints for a pair of models that were going to be added (and were). The hints were they both existed in the old 1st edition Monster Manual and their names began with a letter between A-M. I was wondering if you could tell me what those were?

I'd like to add that I'm also very interested in outdoor terrain in Bones. One of the first things I posted interest in (on the KS comments) were items like campfires, tents, tree stumps, fallen trees, etc... (also casualty figures). Just thought I'd add my voice to that proposal, but when it comes to Bones I'll buy anything that is useful in Pathfinder or D&D... or is just to awesome to pass up!

Amazing job on this project btw.

I'm thinking it was the Caryatid Column and Burrowing Horror, possibly Basilisk - Ron decided what hints could be given and not, so the clues were always his...

Jason Wiebe has started work on some trees, and we're looking at casualty potions, too. We did 2 for Warlord that people seemed to like.

Will the really big sculpts like Khanjira be made of regular bones material or a combination of hard and soft bones material?

I ask because I have had some issues with big sculpts like Deathsleet being all wobbly under its own weight.

Also with Khanjira, did you have any issues with WOTC on the sculpt? I had read somewhere recently that they had gone after a Kickstarter that was making a large Tarrasque model because it was nearly identical to the "official" look of the monster.

Thank you for an excellent Kickstarter!
