Thanks, Az. I'm pretty happy with the base as it looks great on the game board and didn't take too long (apart from fiddling with colors, which I wrote down!). I talked about the crossing/zone lines earlier, but I wanted to mention the cracks. Not real happy as they came out heavy-handed, though they do convey the effect so I can live with it. But I am concerned with improving my brush control to properly deliver the paint when I'm freehanding, I basically painted it as if I were using a pen. Gurney linked this cool video that got me thinking about tip pressure, angle of stroke and all kinds of fun stuff:
