89001: Pathfinder Red Dragon

Recommended Posts

Well, I've decided it's time to take a deep breath and starting working on my dragons. To start with, this guy:

I love Wayne Reynolds' concept art (above) so I'm trying to stick to it as much as possible.

Here he is, assembled and based:

The base is an unholy mess of glue, cork, green stuff, stones and sand.

Here he is with some base coats:

The red is Vallejo Burnt Cad. Red (+ Pure Black), the base is Stormy Grey + Swamp Green + Pure Black, the eyes are Sun Yellow, the chest is Vallejo Yellow Ochre and the horns etc. are just plain Pure Black.

Next I'll base coat the teeth, clean up the red coat, and start layering...

Awesome. How did the Bones take Green Stuff?

Quite well. I'm still relatively new to this, but I've used Green Stuff on multiple Bones figures now and haven't had a single problem so far.

OOh I hadn't seen the concept art before, that's very pretty! You're sticking to the color scheme really well, it looks great so far!

I especially love your base! I'll definitely need to start fiddling with making nice bases for my minis, rather than leaving them with the bases they come with lol!

Nice work I like how you even matched base additions to the picture.

What size base is that btw?

Man everyone is painting this guy...guess I better get off my butt and paint mine too lol

I think it's fun to see everyone's different version of the same miniature! When we're all done we should put the final pictures side by side =D

Id post pics but I dont have a camera. the one on my phone is so grainy and fuzzy and doesnt take shots close enough to really see anything.

I attempted to take pics once and they were just aweful.

I'm going ot have to get me some green stuff and cork and start trying to base things, because I love the look of that base and how nicely it fits with the dragon's intergral base.

I'm finding doing bases to be more and more fun. You can do so much with so little and give that figure another bit of OOMPH.

I need to find a place to buy green stuff, and that cork though. Any suggestions? =)

The dire crocodile, dire boar, and dire crab were one of the Bones 4 addons, and it doesn't look like they've hit retail just yet. Which is a shame, because we need more giant crabs.

The mud on the dire crocodile's base is just some water effect goo dribbled on that half of the base. The barnacles attached to the rocks on the dire crab's base were sculpted with green stuff. The rocks... those are just rocks.

I'm looking for something to stick Bones, specifically Ma'al Drakar's terrain, to a wooden base. It's not thick enough, at the area I want to place it, to pin effectively.

What kind of adhesives would work? I'm thinking epoxy, maybe? I just /really/ don't want to melt it accidentally and have to buy a new one.

A small group of Goblins to use as opponents in Sellsword & Spellslingers or any other game.

My wife, @Shinma, started to paint the Clockwork Dragon several years ago.
It got to a point where the body was nearly done, and the wings and base remained.

We had prepared a big gear salvaged from a monitor stand, sanded down by a friend.

Then, inspiration and drive was lost and it sat on the shelf, staring at her, unfinished.

Recently she allowed me to finish it. I did the wings, small part of the body, along with the base.
      Here's our result!

I just like the way the blue/black wings look.  - I did the same with the Librarian Sophie. (last month)
I really need to paint up one of the metal versions for contrast.
I'm not sure what she is serving - Meat, bread and salad is the way I painted it, but that could be cake instead.
