Still delayed. The creators are putting out updates about having moved and printing delays. Not sure if all the minis are good to go cause some of the updates are for backers only.

Oh well. Will definately be waiting for reviews before considering whether to pick it up when it eventually hits retail.

What the Dickens?

  Hello,

This is a message from Kickstarter’s Integrity team. We're writing to inform you that a project you backed, Alien vs Predator The Miniatures Game, is the subject of an intellectual property dispute.

The law requires that we remove the project from public view until the dispute is resolved (please see our Copyright Policy and Trademark Policy for more info). Because the project already ended successfully, your pledge hasn’t been affected. The creator should still be able to move forward with the project (and send any unfulfilled rewards). If you have any questions, though, you can still message the creator from the project page.

Thanks so much for your patience and cooperation,
Kickstarter

It's not been all that long since the update about 20th Century Fox asking for their logo on the box to be moved so it would be very strange for them to can it at this stage.

I'm hoping it's someone pulling shenanigans and it'll get reinstated. Prodos have still been actively fulfilling their Warzone KS from what I can tell so don't seem like a questionable group and with how often they've mentioned meetings with the rights holders and started to demo the game at shows,I would be extremely surprised if this is a legitimate claim.

.... I hope....

...... I wonder if it's one of the characters or xenomorph designs from one of the computer games that's caused the issue. Seems more likely a 3rd party causing an issue over something like that than Fox at this stage. There were things from both SEGA's Colonial Marines and Capcoms AvP arcade game in there. As seemed to be understood by Prodos though they had rights to the full canon and the mini for the Crusher from Colonial Marines at least had been approved by Fox according to updates.

If I had to guess I'd say it'll be because of the rule book or because they showed something off they shouldn't have and pissed off Fox legal:

  • They took A LOT of stuff with them to those conventions they've been touring and folks are gonna take pictures.  Anything that got photographed that hadn't been fully approved yet they'd be liable for.
  • They'd mentioned that Fox had final say on game mechanics.  Releasing a soft beta version the way they did could have also done it.

Yeah they had full access to everything but the movies.  Fox has parent rights to everything under the AVP flag, except celebrity likenesses.  That's a sticky business when it comes to golden age actors who are hurting for bank.

Hopefully it's a minor hiccup with somebody (or their lawyer) who thinks they have the rights to a tiny little thing like an actors face, the map of the ship or something similar that is easily (and cheaply) settled

It would be tragic if the fans constant demand to see stuff has led to Prodos overstepping the mark far enough to get the licence pulled by showing stuff at the demos and conventions (or putting up some of the rules)..

I guess the other bad possibility is they missed a progress milestone (should this have shipped?)

I can't check the page now but I think the originally planned shipping start date was September, or maybe earlier.... anyone else remember?

A lot of the delay seems to have been the time it's taken to communicate back and forth between Fox's legal team which is part of why it seems so strange to me that Fox would be behind the IP dispute.... Frankly the fact that it IS an IP dispute when Fox have been this involved is a very large part of what makes me think it's not an issue with Fox (I mean if they had an issue I think it'd be managed in a difference way, sudden IP dispute seems an odd way to go unless there were some seriously sour grapes between parties)
