My no doubt sporadic WIP thread of pain

Recommended Posts

I went and cast two votes, and am I impressed with what you did, and with the competition.

I still think Corporea and Dontfear are superior..

I wish you BOTH luck... :)

But I think your skills are TOP notch.

Your next mini should be a faceless horror then! :poke:

I swear reaper has everything.......

Thanks for voting jason! I'm glad you like my piece it was a lot of time and effort but so fun.

It is nice to be appreciated.

Ive been wrestling with tinley here for the last few days, nothing is coming easy on this piece. Her right hand looks deformed and lumpy, her dress I'm getting happy with but it is still not there yet and like wise her skin is coming along but oh so slowly. Its fun but frustrating, fu. Because I can see the improvement, frustrating because it is slow. Also, velvet is hard to paint.

I see what you mean by her right hand. Is it a bit of a miscast?

Her skin tones are looking nice, her velvet dress is cool (really neat effect btw), and her face is looking really good. Can't wait to see more!

Its meant to be holding a staff. I mangled it. I thought I smoothed it enough but I'm not so sure. May have to gloss coat and glaze to reclaim some smoothness.

it looks like velvet!  Nice work!!

It was a matter of realizing that velvet is actually 4 colors and has a subtle modulation from black to white.  and good lord did I struggle with it, that dress took me 6 hours of trial and mostly error.

Red hair:

I start with gw deathclaw brown

post-12951-0-06333400-1391561873_thumb.jpg

Wash with p3 battlefield brown

Reclaim the midtone by painting every raised surface with the base color

post-12951-0-80474900-1391561997_thumb.jpg

Then hit the most prominent areas with a 50 50 mix of the base and tau light ochre, a yellowy orangey brown.

Now just the tau light ochre, a little bit less than the last shade.

Now the very highest points with menoth white highlight, a nice warm white.

Lastly, a watered down sepia wash. Hit the very brightest highlights again with the white.

Here is the front so you can see a smooth area.

Sorry for the crappy pics cell phone and all.
