Painting Death

Nov 2013 - Jan 2014

edit: The Results!

The challenge:

1. Paint any Kingdom Death model. Completely open challenge, keep it simple or go nuts. No restrictions on basing or modification, but do restrict it to Kingdom Death models. The object is to paint up some KD in advance of the release of Kingdom Death: Monster.

2. (optional) Include a short paragraph of prose about your entry.

3. Post your entry to this thread by midnight CST on January 20, 2014. Anyone can enter at any time before this deadline.

After the deadline I will set up a poll to see who wins the exciting no-prize. Because there is no prize! If for some reason we get a better than expected turnout, I could re-consider a prize of some sort.

Please, no chatter on this thread, entries only!

If you have questions or need help, please post in the discussion thread.

If there is nudity (or borderline nudity ala the White Speaker's straps), please provide a link to your photos rather than embedding them in your entry post. Reaper is a family-friendly forum. Thanks!

Thanks to Inarah for the format of this post!

My Twilight Order Knight.

*Small disclaimer * I've really only ever used the base coat, drench in wash, then highlight with a slightly lighter version of base coat formula, this is my first model that I tried any kind of shading (mostly visible in the cloak) and even some colors as a base with a thinned completely different color for blending and highlighting. Is it perfect? no. Am I stoked to pull off things I hadn't tried before? umh heck yeah!

I can not for the life of me get the image to post so I'll try to figure out whats wrong and then post it

the image is totally safe for work etc.

Title: Big, Bad Wolf

Miniature: Kingdom Death Pin-Up Savior

Base: Basicks 30mm Mystic Base

But, hey, at least I'll take third (as it stands right now), right?

I know, right? Simmer down, Ub3r, simmer down.  :upside:

As for the contest, my two KD minis are sitting on my desk. Taunting me. Watching my every move. Unpainted. Unprimed. They loath me. It makes me fear for my wellbeing. KD minis don't strike me as the merciful type...

Separating a bee from its honey is always a risky prospect, but especially when they are giant, man-eating Titan Bees.
However, when smeared with a concoction made with the pulped remains of it's larva, a person is temporarily rendered virtually invisible to the Bees. And so the Bug Thief started a thriving business stealing bee babies to make into potions, but how did she survive going into the hive in the first place? That's a mystery to be solved another day.

Had a lot of fun painting this one, her bee striped fur thingy didn't come out like I hoped (and she's stuck with rather wonky eyes) but I think she ended up looking fairly decent overall.

As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.

While the title may sound like a part of a weird children's book series, it's actually a trio of Kingdom Death Pin-ups!

The Bug Thief, her right arm goes across her face so I've left it off for now.

The Swamp Girl. I have to paint her base, paint her and then sandwich the clear bit in between without making a mess.

The Dogpole Mother, the hard part will be painting the Dogpoles so that they actually look like something!

      Starting with the Bug Thief:-

Painted her face and boobs (Rosy Flesh > Flesh Wash > Rosy Flesh > Rosy Flesh/Light Flesh), added a touch of Scarlett Red to the final highlight for her lips and painted her eyes (The left one is a bit buggy, but I'm hoping it'll look better once I paint her hair).

Presenting the Ram Pin-up from Kingdom Death, I imagine this is what quest-giving NPCs look like in that world, sketchy, half-naked dudes who always have one more dubious item for you to fetch before they'll let you have the promised fancy sword.

I'm reasonably happy with how he turned out. He's a little rough in places, where my brush control wasn't quite up to the task, but I don't think I did too bad.
