Adrift
If this scammer were dragged out into the street and publicly beaten, other scammers might heed the warning and back off. I hate to say it, but I think society lost something with the lack of public punishment/humiliation for crimes. Just an opinion.
Pingo
I think part of the problem with that is that humiliation has never been proven an effective deterrent to crime. Quite the contrary, generally. And mob justice has proven all too often to be applied to the wrong person. Laws may be frustrating and slow, but they tend to work better than individual violent action.

It turns depressing up to eleven. This is a very sad turn of events and a perfect indication of how violence isn't a solution.
Reaperbryan
And of course, as Creators should be wary to insulate themselves from unscupulous backers, so backers should be aware of unscrupulous creators: http://blogs.wsj.com/digits/2013/11/12/kickstarter-project-canceled-amid-fraud-accusations/

These guys cancelled the Kickstarter but as of yesterday on their update were still claiming A) it was real and B) they had found private funding and C) they were still willing to offer it to the potential backers for half the expected retail price. Lies upon lies upon lies. Obviously it is just a coincidence that these folks are located in my hometown, which I was referring to a couple of posts above. Halberkill
You mean plasma beings that live in the sun that control morality in the universe . You obviously know nothing about the proper paranoid rantings of a schizophrenic person. Halber
Nocturne
Hyperdimensional plasma being apparently. I had avoided the later updates until now for the sake of my own sanity.
ApesAmongUs
... or those who think they are under attack by the sun and clearly needed some serious help. Given my skin tone, I'm pretty sure I am often under attack by the sun.
Reaperbryan
Pledge Trolling making the news (of a sort): http://comicsbeat.com/kicktrolling-is-on-the-rise-as-funders-become-scammers/ We definitely dealt with issues like this during our project, although NOT to the tune of $10,000. Doramos
It makes me sad to see that this is apparently becoming a thing. It's something that creators are going to have to start factoring into their goals though.
Reaperbryan
And another instance of trolling a pledge - this one that was far more detrimental: http://comicsbeat.com/more-tales-of-kicktrolling-emerge-and-why-its-destructive/ This is important, that we a s a community watch for this kind of thing. These people are hurting the small creators, and small backers. Some of these companies and projects simply cannot survive this kind of financial shenanigan.
