I'm curious how it will compete with Descent: Journeys in the Dark. I feel that Descent is the spiritual successor to the original HeroQuest, and incorporates a lot of advances in the field of modern gaming (::P:). HeroQuest was my first "RPG" style game and led me into later RPGs; I played hours of it and have a strong sense of nostalgia for it, but I don't think I could go back and play it again.

One of the things I loved about HQ was it's connection to the really GW (not the shadow of a company it is now). It was a way of playing in the warhamer world without the need for a big army, with this gone....it's just a fantasy board game.....although the thought sounds good, I think it's more nostalgia, and playing it not in warhammer will make me regret getting it once I have it.

I don't think the GW link was obvious until Advanced HeroQuest came out, where the main opponents were Skaven (in the base game) and there were ads for Warhammer Fantasy, Citadel Miniatures, etc. I still remember one of the pieces of the amulet (represented by four tokens that fit together) which read "Ekey Bewa". It became a running gag in our family for a while (I played with my father and brother). :lol:

Nostalgia, but it's an excellent gateway for new gamers to play. The rules are simple (and have been "improved", afaik), but the concepts of teamwork and best using your abilities (eg. spells) is actually new to those used to "Parker Brothers family games" like Monopoly, Clue, etc. The box alone contains about 100 miniatures and terrain elements, plus 35 resin tokens: http://www.heroquestclassic.com/box-materials/ Prices are about $90 for the game, $110 for game plus 15 additional heroes, and$150 for game, additional heroes, and stretch goals.

 

Terrain bits:

 

-48 Resin SCENE ELEMENTS

These elements will also be made of resin as this allows us to create pieces with greater details. Some elements will come separate and will need a simple assembly.
- The wardrobe pieces are interchangeable making verity a real possibility in the 25th.
- The doors will be able to be open or closed as the door frame will have hinges.
- The treasure chests will have open able lids to see what is inside. The interior will be empty and ready to have a treasure inserted in the form of a token that will represent a bag of coins, a pile of coins, or an empty bottom with a singular coin. The interior chest tokens are also interchangeable with other elements .
- The gargoyle pedestal has a space for a treasure token when the figure is removed
- The Cell door can open or close depending on the mission guidelines
- The sarcophagus also has an area to add treasure tokens if you wish to show different contents

All those scenery "features" make it sound... fiddly. I appreciate variety, but anything intended for a tabletop game needs to be able to withstand some rough use without falling apart. I can imagine having to replace fallen doors and knocked-off treasure tokens several times throughout a gaming session...

worst case they can produce it and sell it in Spain, you can then buy it online and personally import it without issue

 

 

(I suspect they won't be able to distribute it for retail sale outside of Spain, but if it's not a direct copy maybe they will)

 

 

Also if that is the standard of translation (as opposed to a Google translate by SamuraiJack) they're going to have problems
