Foxfire
How do you like Super Dungeon Explore? ... I've recently experienced a growing temptation to get this game. Sadly, I've never actually played it. Tabletop gaming is too old fashioned to be of any interest to my social circle Oh you poor thing - we just spent the entire weekend re-arranging the house so that we now have a gaming room and we had a couple of friends over last night for some warhammer quest action. Good times.
aku-chan
Kaladrax is stalking! Don't really like how the back leg on the other side is just dangling in mid-air, I get why it's like that but it doesn't stop it looking weird. I'll learn to live with it though. Some more half-finished guys have made their way from the box of shame to my painting table:- From left to right: Barbarian Girl, Steampunk Knight, Viking Gnome, Steampunk Dorothy and Biomancer. My current goal is to finish these guys, plus the ones already on the table and Kaladrax before I start anything new. I doubt I'll be able to resist temptation for very long, but I'll try. Since he was the furthest along, I tackled the Viking Gnome today:- Being so small, he's hard to photograph. Was expecting to struggle because of his size, but he's turned out okay. Only problem I had was his mouth, got Walnut Brown all over his lips and I just couldn't get them to match the rest of his face again. When I finish his base I'll try and get some better piccys. Not sure who to finish next, either the Devil Knight or the Orge.

Kuro Cleanbrush
I haven't seen a Viking gnome before; that's cool, and you're doing a great job with him! I really like how his cape is turning out!
aku-chan
Somewhat better pictures of the Viking Gnome:- Still struggling to take a decent photo of him, but this should do, I'm quite pleased with how he's turned out. Yesterday I did a bit of work to my Devil Knight:- Nope, still can't do extreme edge highlighting So he's had a tidy up, I've drybrushed his wolf-cape with Maggot White, tried (and failed) to highlight his horns and tail-thingy (again with Maggot White), I'll try to salvage these with a Nightmare Black glaze but I think with the horns I'll have to just paint them solid black and rely on gloss varnish for the highlights. I also tried to add VMC Light Green highlights to the scales on his tunic, unfortunately they still look too much like dots of Light Green, I'll go over them with some Grass Green to try and get them to blend a bit better. Finally I gave him Blood Red eyes. Today my legs were acting up and I couldn't concentrate on detail work, so I did some basecoating:- Yep, new stuff again already, but I needed something big and simple to work on that wasn't Kaladrax. Made a lovely new skintone out of 1:1:1 VGC Dwarf Skin/VGC Bronze Fleshtone/Linen White that had terrible coverage, I'm up to 5 coats at the moment. Had the same coverage issues with her 4:1 Sun Yellow/VMC Red Orange hair (still needs another going over or two). The VMC Royal Blue went on her dress great though.
aku-chan
And my Devil Knight is finished! That thin layer of Nightmare Black worked wonders for tidying up his horns and tail. Unfortunately the photo shows up the miscast on his face, not only is he one of the noseless Bones, he's also got a wonky right eye. Bonus shot of my really bad attempt at free-hand:- I thought I'd be clever and draw the design on with a micropen, which smudged all over the place when I put the varnish on. Repaired it as best as I could, but I think next time I'll try and find my old sheet of transfers first. Had some trouble deciding what to work on next, and I now have a lot more half-painted minis on my shelf then I did a few days ago, but I seem to have settled on a Pirate Lady:- The cast isn't too good on this one, but she's coming along nicely.
Pragma
Nice choice of colours on the devil knight. The freehand pattern is a good idea - not perfectly executed, but I guess that just comes with practice. For highlighting I always start with my base colour thinned to a consistency for layering, and slowly mix in pure white in increasing concentrations. Not sure if this helps, but just thought I would share since you said you are having problems with highlighting. The only other advice I would add is to maybe add another wash to his armor. Right now it looks like he just walked out of the armor store :)
pocketcthulhu
I second the idea of a wash on the armor it will really make the hard edges pops, and the freehand stuff is painful I know.
aku-chan
His armour is actually pretty dull in real life, I'm having problems with my varnish making everything super shiny when under my lamps to take proper photos, I think another dose of brown wash would take off too much of the remaining sparkle. Unfortunately, there's going to be no updates for a while, managed to hurt my shoulder bad last night so I'm going to be out of the painting game for the time being. Can't even play with the random box of Mantic minis I got this morning

(I've got a bum shoulder, my painting hand of course). Baby it and let it heal. The minis will wait patiently (at least until you paint their eyes... then they glare accusingly)
Kuro Cleanbrush
I really like the colors you went with for your demon knight, and the freehand is great! And sorry to hear about the hurt shoulder. I hope it heals up quickly!
aku-chan
Thanks for the kind words guys. Thankfully its starting to ease up already, no trips to physiotherapist like last time!
aku-chan
Feeling a bit better now. I've been doing a few things, mainly assembling all the new stuff that turned up this week, but now I'm waiting on some plastic glue and fancy bases, so I made an early start to this guy:- Determined to enter something in the pageant this time, no chickening out just because everyone else's looks better. I didn't think his muscles were defined enough for a wash to work, so I'm doing the dreaded 'painting up from shadow', but his jeans and coat are midtone. Need to repaint his crotch, didn't realize he had a codpiece until I checked the official pics for inspiration.
Maglok
Ohh purple chest. :) You keep up a lot of painting, good work, and manage the tale of the painter as well over at warseer. Good stuff! You monster on!
