Pinkymadigan's Nativity (LOTS of pics)

Recommended Posts

Okay, so a brief respite away from my standard fantasy Bones stuff to get a small portion of my mother's Christmas gift done. She collects nativities, so this made a lot of sense to finally order and paint up.

Group shot, then close ups follow...

The big/little guy was the hardest, by far. There isn't a lot of room for detail, being a baby, and painting it where it doesn't exist is difficult for me. Went for a closed eye look, hopefully it comes across that way...

You know what sort of year it’s been when you think to yourself that you played a game “recently”, only to find that it was last October.
So, in a “recent” game of Dragon Rampant, I was using a scenario from the related game Lion Rampant which called for three “wagon” markers for one side to be escorting.  I had two 1/72 scale plastic wagons or carts at the time, so I threw in a noblewoman (an old Airfix mounted Maid Marion figure) as a third element to be escorted.  Afterward, I pulled some farm animals out of the plastics collection and decide to add some flock/herd bases to the baggage train.

However, pandemic, etc...I finally got the sheep painted yesterday, deciding at the last minute (earlier this week) that they would look better with someone to keep an eye on them.  The shepherd is another of the ubiquitous Robin Hood set figures.  While I was at the desk and working, I also finished up an addition to the NPC/civilian/camp follower collection.  This figure came from the Strelets/Linear-B Roman Transport set, and didn’t look particularly Roman, so she gets added into the general 1/72 fantasy pool.

Sir Forescale would pass as an ogre with these guys.

Anyway, it felt good to get something done, even small...

Just curious, is the Nativity set only going to be available around Christmas, or is the plan to make it generally available year round (realizing of course that supplies might be limited).?

I painted this one for my oldest stepdaughter,

she's into synchronized swimming has like 23 swim certificates and I believe she's secretly part fish.
Also she's a bit of a scrooge sometimes, so I added a Rustik Market's piece of resin treasure.
      Made the rock from Milliput.

      WIP is here http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/66314-mary-the-mermaid-by-xherman1964-or-underwater-greed/

Gave her a stripes inspired by the tigershark, but different  because she's a mermaid.

Hope you like her, she did!!!

I want to give my girlfriend's parents a little gift this X-mas ( well a bit before that).

So I decided to make a little vignette of the Nativity Set.

I found this nice dome for 5 euros..

I had to skip the idea of the three Kings.
But my girl explained to me that they visited later, so it wouldn't be a problem to just use the Nativity set itself, a sheperd and a few animals.
Else it would get too crowded on the little wooden plate.

The Donkey and Oxen are supposed to keep Baby Jesus warm with their breath. So that's why they stand so close.

The Cow will be mutilated converted into an Oxen.

      Here is the set up.

I might have to move them a little more forward to close the gap.

**** But Herman December is a long time away! Why start now?****

*** Have you noticed how slow I paint?***
