'Twas the night before Empire-mas, and all through the base,

Not a creature was stirring lest it be shot in the face.

The guards were all stationed, the sentries were posted

Where any intruder would quickly be toasted.

The ultramarines were nestled all snug in their beds,

While visions of stormbolters danced in their heads.

Sarge in his pauldrons, and I in my cap

Had both had too much of that tyrannid crap.

When out on the battlement there arose such a clatter,

The marines rushed to their stations to see what was the matter.

I rushed to the window, and what dare I see,

But the one who gives dakka to fight heresy.

His beard white and snowy, his armor so festive,

He looked up and asked if we were the best of

The ranks of the planet, this garrison keep,

And if we had the Emperor's enemies reaped.

We affirmed that we were, we were Space Marines

Not simple soldiers, but killing machines.

He laughed with a voice that was both grim and merry,

And said that we had enemies left to bury.

"Up Dark Angels, Blood Angels, Ultramarines!

Up Space Wolves, Iron Hands, and Angry Marines!

I bring you new weapons, to murder the foe.

Don't dawdle, there's plenty, yes, here you go!"

And he handed out dakka with plenty to spare,

No Marine was left wanting, no hand was left bare.

As he got on his speeder and rose out of sight,

He said "Merry Empire-mas to all, and fight the good fight!

 

 

In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only wassailing.
