Painting with Children [Open to All]

Recommended Posts

Very nice, my niece made it through one color painted pretty well, then I had to walkaway for something. When I came back she had all the colors mixed into one blackish coat. It looked like a black primed mini. Ah well next time I'll know not to leave.

Make sure to take pics and post them up here when she finishes the figures you let her paint up.

@ Data - Great job by those kids, I really like that hell hound and the unicorn, talented artists already!

Here are some more pictures from the last few days painting with the nieces. These six are from the 8 year old niece.

Here are a few more from the 9 1/2 year old (yeah she's at that age where she wants to be identified by the 1/2).

Your niece gave Astrid a thong and an electric blue guitar. I love it.

ROFL yeah, they were both giggling about that one. They asked me if she was wearing pants and I said they were really tight pants like leggings to explain it, but she still thought it was funny to paint up the behind skin colored. Kids be crazy.

Let's hope this leads to a lifelong hobby! I find that many female painters, once they develop their skills, tend to have a more subtle and realistic style than a lot of male painters. My own 9 1/2 year old niece is drawing/coloring as we speak. Maybe I need to give her a paintbrush and a mini!

Yep, they just moved back to Las Vegas and are only about a mile away. I can see them wanting to come over to paint with me over the weekends. Perhaps I need to invest in some mouslings?

I totally think you should give her a paintbrush, mini, and a female figure. Girls that age are all about princesses and whatnot (at least my nieces are), so start her out early too!

Hah, yeah I like that dwarf too. That was actually the first one she got, but he doesn't have many fiddly bits like the rest of them so I think it was a pretty easy piece to paint up for starting out.

So there's a thing called Inktober/Drawlloween that @Pingo reminded me about, where you draw/paint/sketch/art a thing every day during October. There's the "official" list of daily prompts...

and this other one that Pingo found that I think is cooler.

So who else is up for the challenge?
    • By SirLarpsAlot
The Three Color Challenge is the brain child of forumite (and CMPA member) skippen. The idea is to select a miniature, then select, or have someone else select, three colors with which to paint the figure. Black and White are added to allow for highlighting and shading and color mixing is allowed and encouraged. The idea is that by limiting the palette and maybe using colors that may fall outside of one's comfort range, something could be learned.

If you wish to participate in this challenge, please do! If you're struggling with colors and lack friends who are willing to give you opinions, look in the spoiler tag below. When it comes to picking the colors, the idea behind the colors isn't to pick strange combinations or to make this intentionally difficult based on the color choices. You'll find it hard enough to operate without proper flesh tones or metallic paints. I found it a good suggestion because I had to stretch myself and use some paints in combinations I wouldn't have otherwise. Overall, the point is to have fun!

So, recently, I enjoyed visiting twitter (something I never really do and am honestly uncertain if "visiting" is even the right word to employ...showing my age, I know...) and looking at the pictures from the Cute Animal Tweet Off.  It made my day!  A bight a cheery bit of internet amid the dark an depressing wintery mix around it.  I feel inspired to start our own miniature version of this!

Let's have a game!  Post pictures of cute miniatures we find all around the internet.  They can be your own work, so someone else's, just make sure to credit the source!  And have fun!!!  Bring joy to others through the power of CUTE!

Here's one I've always loved:  Ali Bailey's version of the Easter Mousling.  Soooooo cute!!!!
