New England Paint Day

Recommended Posts

How about January 18th or February 1st? Both days are Saturdays. As to the where, I'll contact Pat at the Citadel Game Cellar and if It's good I'll have him post the event on his Facebook page to draw out other painters in the area. If not then it can just be forumites at my place. Either way I'll bring all my paints and such so people who don't have a large collection can try out some colors. If things work well, I'll just have to see about making a monthly deal at the Citadel. Pat was talking about starting to carry a line of paints and if we talk up MSP that may just be the line he goes with.

Which day works best for the most people. And will Mad Jack be able to make it?

Yeah, I'm in. Being that I'm actually the most local local barring anybody random showing up, I'll bring all my paints (well, my set of msp's, anyway - y'all ain't getting my oldschool Partha paints, lol), some tools and my painting lights... I've got a power strip and an extension cord I can bring, too.

I'll also be bringing my bitz box and stuff-I-know-for-a-fact-I'm-never-going-to-paint box on the off chance I can unload some metal on somebody.

Public Service Announcement:

Bring Money!!!

The Citadel Game Cellar is a game store - everything from boardgames to card games to rpgs to poker supplies. I can pretty much guarantee that you'll be walking out of there with something.

If the owner Pat doesn't have a newer game or mini on hand, he'll order it for ya. And The Citadel has a huge backstock of oldschool boardgames, historical wargames, D&D, Champions, Hackmaster, and other stuff. As Dilvish will gladly attest to, digging through the shelves in the back corners of that place is like raiding the library of some ancient wizard's tower. There are boxes full of old issues of Dragon magazine and even a handful of computer rpgs from the 80's. In addition to a few racks of oldschool Ral Partha, Grenadier and even older minis like Wizzards & Warriors, The Citadel carries a lot of older sci-fi minis as well.

The Citadel Game Cellar is easily located just a short distance off of I-95 in both directions. As far as eating arrangements, the Citadel is located on what we locals affectionately call "Hamburger Hill" - within walking distance of The Citadel there's a D'Angelo's, a McD's, Burger King, Dunkin Donuts and a pizza place all lined up like a row of ducks, and there are several restaurants within a two or three minute drive as well.

Also, later on at 8pm, Herman's Hermits will be playing a free show that night at the local casino about 20 minutes away, if anybody wants to stick around...

Ohh, great idea, Mad Jack!! I can also scare up an extension cord and possibly another power strip if necessary.

@Dilvish--Do you think it would cause any problems if this kinda turns into a combo paint day/swap meet? I've got some stuff that I know I'm never going to paint that I could bring as well, but I don't want to step on any toes here, especially since Pat is being kind enough to let us take over the Citadel for a while.

And I can wholeheartedly second what Mad Jack said about this place being a dragon's den of bygone gaming stuff; if there's a figure line or game system that went OOP, there's a fairly decent chance that you can find stuff for it here, at good prices, not ebay/collector's exorbitant prices.

As far as swap meet, not sure. I know Pat takes used book in trade sometimes (he just posted a bunch of used 4E books a while back) but I don't want to abuse his hospitality.

However, what happens in the parking lot, stays in the parking lot.

As for running a game, depending on what it is it will cut into painting time. I don't have a problem with gaming but I'm interested in painting at least this go around. If all the locals get along we can see about turning it into a semi regular thing.

Feb. 1st should actually be pretty good for me. Count me in!

Dilvish,

Do you know if there will be any electricity available? I have a couple of portable lights that are handy for mobile painting. (I also have a smaller, battery-powered model, but the plug-ins are bigger and nicer, and I can loan one out.)

I'll speak with my social planner to see if I can do the 1st. I'm hosting D&D with my local group on the 2nd, so I'll have to be extra super special nice to make up for making her a gaming widow for the whole weekend. Fortunately, she's a football fan, so I don't have to worry about being served divorce papers for going straight from D&D to the Superbowl.

And thanks for bringing your paints. I hate having to lug my sets around. If there is less stuff for me to haul, the better.

A sighting of Qwyk painting in the wild. Someone better bring a camera. Weekly World News will want it to post next to Sasquatch and Bat Boy.

Just got home from swinging by Pat's. Looks like we are good for the 1st. I also found out that my memory was faulty and he opens at 11am on Sat. So....

New England Paint Paint Paint Day: February 1st

Location: Citadel Game Cellar, 565 Long Hill Road, Groton CT

Hours: 11am-5pm

Mad Jack

Chaos Wolf

Arrd Rinn

Divish

klarg1

Qwiksilver (depending on groveling ability)

Let's try and answer some of the questions:

1. I will have my paints there. However I don't have all paints. I've got bith sets of the HD paints and about 70 MSPs. I have a good selection of colors (I'm a bit light on purples and pinks and oranges) I wasn't planning on bringing my ProPaints but can if someone needs a color. If you don't want to bring all your paints but are worried about having a particular color, ask and I'll let you know if I have it. (this may change;see point 3.)

2. Electrical: There are outlets available. I'll be bringing a power strip and a lamp or two. There is ok overhead lighting over the tables. Plenty of table space and chairs available

3. While I was there, Pat mentioned that he still had to follow up on ordering a paint line to stock. I used the Force for personal gain, pulled a Jedi mind trick, and while I was standing go Pat to order the MSP line. When I left, is distributor was contacting Reaper. So there is a chance that we will be able to buy MSP by the time the paint day rolls around. I foresee many more impulse purchaces on my part.

4. Shopping: As MadJack stated above, Pat carries all kinds of older stuff, minis, RPG and board games. Some shelves are like time capsules. He does not carry everything. I found out today that he offers a 10% discount special orders. So if there is anything odd that you were looking for, he may be abl to get it for you by then. Just sayin'.

Looking forward to seeing everyone there. Any questions, just feel free to ask.
