New England Paint Day

Recommended Posts

I have just been informed that the 17th is a no go for me.  Awesome Wife has some sort of regional meeting/convention to go to up in Newport, RI.  I'm good for the 18th if we wanted to do a Sunday, or any other weekend (10th should be good for me).   Where are we thinking about for a location.  Last paint day we were talking the Hobby Bunker, but I see an awful lot of Citadel talk in the threads.  Speaking of which, I was there yesterday, and Pat says hi to everyone.

I can do the tenth. I'm gonna be at school by 9am, I hope, so I'll be all set for doing something fun with my Saturday...

Gotta see how broke I'll be, too. Usually I'm flush after Christmas, but I'm thinking about building a desktop, and that's not cheap... But should be good fun either way. We can show off our Christmas minis!

I want something I can upgrade. I have a laptop, but for the price of even a midrange gaming laptop, I could put together a good gaming rig... and I could put in a dedicated Graphics and Videocard, and add a second harddrive, and upgrade the RAM to 16 or 32 gigs; even my 8 gig laptop lags out on me when I'm doing more than 4 or 5 tasks at once. And I need something with a better heat sync - I've been consistantly running 90 degrees or so when I'm running parallel tasks - and unfortunately, with how slim laptops are getting I'm worried that that will be a serious problem next time I upgrade. And my current laptop cost nearly 700$ when I bought it, after the rebate and the sale (it was a display model) - for that much, I could buy a cheap 200$ refurb for my personal use, and build a decent desktop that I could upgrade as I wished, and then save up for a few months to get the graphics card, SS memory, and add a second HD.

That's too bad as you have a great brew pub just down the hill from you.  I was there yesterday and had a great porter.

Give it time. I felt a lot like Aard when I was her age. I didn't actually start drinking until I was in my mid-20's.

...so what's that you say about a great porter? :blues:

The Willimantic Brewing Company operates out of an old Federal Style postal building (the actual post office is in one of those ugly 70's style brick buildings).  All of their offerings has postal related names.  I had the Section A Porter.  All of their food offerings are named for the surrounding towns.  Good place.  I almost picked up a growler of the porter.

I had my first beer a few weeks after turning 21. I was spending the summer working at CERN and went to dinner with some of the professors. When they found out I hadn't had beer they made sure to order me one. I learned a lot about drinking that summer but since I started with the good stuff, including a trip to Scotland that summer, I have never been able to stomach coors, miller, Budweiser swill.

I drink often but not a lot, mostly whiskey beer and wine.

I actually rather like PBR. It's definitely the most drinkable cheap beer out there - although if the hipsters keep driving up the price, it's going to rapidly exceed its own value...

Kids these days...

What's the point of enjoying a beer if it tastes better leaving your body than entering it? Pay a little more and get something palatable.

Again, I like PBR. I'll certainly take one over a Bud, Coors, Michelob, &c.

I'll point out that it's not like I have any in my fridge right now - generally, if I'm picking the beer I go with something darker and more fully flavoured. Stouts, porters, &c. I have most of a sixer of Stockyard Oatmeal Stout in my fridge at home, plus a "build your own six pack" that's mostly various types of cider.
