New England Paint Day

Recommended Posts

Just a last-minute reminder, for those not familiar with the Citadel - It's in the back of the building, so you can't see it from the street.

When you see the McDonald's, pull into the very next parking lot downhill from it - the largest name on the sign is Advanced Back & Neck Care - and proceed around the side of the building to the rear parking lot...

If I'm not there in the first hour, look outside and see if you can find somebody wandering up and down the street looking lost. It'll probably be me.

  After-action report:

Turnout was pretty good, fun was had by all, much money was spent, lol...

I'm already looking forward to the next one - at which I may actually paint something, heh.

P.S. - I told y'all you weren't leaving there without spending serious cash, hehehe...

I had a blast and even managed to paint some things.  We had one new painter show up and a few other pop in to see what was up.  I think the locals are agreed to to a semi-regular meet so things are improving.  Pat even kept the store open a little longer so people could keep shopping.  Aard was like a kid in a candy store witha all of the old minis.  The only way it could have been better was if the paints had shown up on time.  Oh well they should be there for next time.

Thanks to everyone who showed.

Yup, just like Mad Jack and Dilvish said, very good time indeed! It was pretty cool getting to meet up with some of the folks from the board in real life. We had a good time browsing through the store, laughing and joking about any and everything, shared tips and advice, and had some pretty cool minis related discussions. I didn't actually finish anything, but I accomplished more painting yesterday than I have for the rest of the year. I even continued painting after I got home, so I may actually have some figures to post soon!

Thanks to Pat, the owner of The Citdel for having us, and thanks to Dilvish for setting this up!!

If you happen to be from some other part of the country/world and are reading this, I highly encourage everyone to get together and do something like this in your local area.

So, when's the next one? :bday:

Well, being as this is a month of 28 days, the First of March falls on a Saturday. It appeals to the numbers person in me, so I think that would be cool...

On a side note, at current rates, I will have painted approximately... all of these... by next month. So the sooner the better (provided I can find a way to get down there again.)

Edit: Oh, BTW, whoever gave me the Kelpie/Nightmare with the rider - I painted it green. It looks awesome. Black Primer.... Hmm. I will admit that it looks pretty damn good. I will also say that I went much lighter on this one then I originally planned because I couldn't see the color against the black, but I think I like it.

When Pat gets his load of Reaper Paints in, it will include their primers/sealant, right?

The Ral Partha mer-guy with the sword riding the seahorse/hippocampus, or whatever that thing was? That was me...

BTW, I was serious about that offer - give me a list of stuff you're looking for and I'll dig through my boxes and send ya some of it. I found the DHL Classics: Lady Lycanthropes you were talking about (although I'm not sure where I put the werewolf), and since you were looking for wolves, I've got a couple of them, too.

Nope, although he's next up on the docket after my Nightmare. It was a preprimed one, so I think it was that other guy... Frank? ...*quietly goes and is bad with names*

It's like a jumping horse with horns - a literal Kelpie. Grenadier '86. I'll toss up some pictures tommorrow... I painted it drab-olive green with brown dappling on the haunches, and the mane is bright magenta. Red eyes and bone horns & teeth, and the rider is wearing a blue cloak... Between the olive and the pink, you'd think it'd be weird, but it's actually quite nice and it really does look natural, and the bright blue works with it. I really like how it came out.

Edit: Ok!Thanks so much - I'm actually going to take a crack at the Pegasus next, I think. I just need to grab some better gesso - the stuff I'm using is crap...
