New England Paint Day

Recommended Posts

I just walked past Hobby Bunker yesterday on my way to the Department of Education to submit paperwork for my Teaching license.  I'd never been there before.  So at least now I know how easy and accessible it is.  Parking can be a pain though, since it's mostly garages in the area or finding a space on the street.

I've been there to game on several occasions. The garage across the street from Hobby Bunker is free on the weekends.

The down side is that they do not always have space.

Yeah, Hobby Bunker is first-come, first-served with regards to table space, and it gets pretty full on weekends (Sunday is Warmahordes).  However, every time I've been there (which has been before 1 o'clock), there is one table open.  I think we could work something out with the staff as long as one of our party got there fairly early.  But that is definitely a strength of Citadel - having guaranteed space for us to paint.

Considering that Hobby Bunker is less than a mile from my house, I could easily get there early (or if they're full I have a well lit 3rd floor room with plenty of space for painting).  Is it better to make a few people do a long drive and others a short one, or make everyone do a fairly long drive and meet in Worchester?  For me, a 2 hour drive is about the same as a 1 hour drive, so I vote we either do Malden or Groton (Citadel).

My dining table + kitchen table could probably accommodate around 7-9 painters, but it would get mighty cozy after that point.

There are also no game stores in the immediate vicinity, so paint would have to be entirely from us.

April is busy for me, but maybe I'll volunteer to host something in June or July.

Well, I can pick up Aard on the way up if we do this in MA (my passenger seat may or may not be full, but I have a large trunk, lol)...

I spent the better part of a decade as a hardcore road warrior running back and forth between CT, Providence and Boston (and sometimes NY and NJ) for Rocky Horror so I don't have a problem with a two-hour drive.

An hour and a half would be better, but I'm good with wherever we can work out the best arrangement for the most people... I'm completely open on the date, although Saturdays are a bit better than Sundays.

Looks like I will officially be volunteering to run Pathfinder demos at PAX East*, which, combined with RCon, is going to make my April weekends a bit schedule-tight. May should be pretty clear though.

In other news: I also have a game scheduled at the 'Toy Soldier', waaaaaayy up in Amesbury this Saturday. I'll report back on how it looks when I get back.

Toy Soldier doesn't have a lot of space for play/painting.

And Amesbury isn't far. I work there.

Granted, now it's wicked far, since I'm hanging in Ft Myers watching the Sox.

They actually had 6-8 tables for gaming, which I thought was pretty good, but I agree that they are not really set up for painting.

Well, I'm not sure about a larger group thing, but I'm gonna talk to Pat at the Citadel about doing something on the first Saturday in April, even if it just ends up being for the locals (or even if it's just me, lol)...

I'm kinda kicking around the idea of running a steady monthly learn-to-paint sort of thing at the Citadel for whoever decides to show up.

I'll see if I can make it. I need to get some painting done, and hanging out in the middle of a group of painters would help.

No promises though.
