Arc 724
... Not sure if I should make the center circle a pool or regular planter. if I go the pool route I'll need to clean up the GS some. Thoughts? First thing I saw was a Water based tree in the center, like the ones you see in swamps but one taken care of and groomed. Then smaller plants on the left and right. You get the best of both worlds; water in the center and a tree! Edited February 14, 2015 by Arc 724
chaoshead
I will also recommend drilling further into the leg for a stronger pin here, that is a large top heavy mini you have there. I don't know if the power tool would be my suggestion. I have drilled a few deep holes into minis by hand with great results. Not to mention the thought of snapping a tiny bit and having it drill into your hand. Right shoulder down left arm back in a running pose with a tail lashing behind for balance would be a fantastic pose here. Sort of reminds me of an old Captain America comic cover...minus the tail part...and shield...
MonkeySloth
this is a display piece right Willen? If that's the case the pose will be fine just do the better pin and maybe an epoxy glue.
Willen
Display... eh, I intend to play with all my Infinity minis, but I certainly try to do my best on them anyway. If it was going to be fixed in a Dio it would've been easier, but I still want it to be playable, so... I will try to do a stronger pin. I might need to pin without glue the arms and paint them separately, even if I hate doing that... but they will get in the way of a running pose. BTW, I bulked out the ankles with GS/Milliput, set the base for sculpting the missing bit there, and am pretty happy so far. It looks solid; but I will have to check how the balance goes and probably commit to a better "ground" pin, even multiple, to prevent it from snapping off the base. I started work on a tail too, but I also found the Iguana tail. TBH I don't know if I want my Iguana wiith a tail, since it's pose is so more humanoid... I will show you pics in a moment. Edit: OK, Scarface => no tail (and I think it is supposed to be the same "chasis" base as the Iguana. Also the mercenary Anaconda's butt section looks very similar to the Iguana, and it is also tailless. And after checking the pics, I am convinced: this tail was produced to be modded on a running Szally! I just wish the tail was more flexible so I could straighten it a bit... a running lizard would make its tail stiff and straight for running! This is the first half of the tail I was sculpting... nowhere as cool Edited February 15, 2015 by Willen
MonkeySloth
Ahh, I thought this was for a diorama.
chaoshead
Idk if I would say that the sculpted tail is "nowhere as cool". It is in the beginning sculpt stages and has only the very basic of shape so far. I would love to see you take this idea and finish it with your straight sculpted tail. I would say that your thoughts on the straight tail are dead on target. Saying this, however, the curved tail from the iguana is a much faster and easier way of getting this done and will look just fine in the end. Honestly, not very many people are going to look at it and say, "Shouldn't the tail be straight if it is running?"
MonkeySloth
I think you should play with the tail concept so more. If it's not working you can cut up the original and sculpt new parts as needed. Got into the scenery today and holy moly airbrushing white is annoying and hard to deal with as it dries on the tip so fast. Could get maybe 20-30 seconds of spray time before I had to clean off the tip. I started by priming them with white shellac. Here you've got some benches from MAS and then some pool tables, vending machines and random tables from Underground Lasers. The underground Laser stuff is pretty good scale wise but the MAS benches are huge (maybe 30% larger). You'll see a pic below that shows this better. I basically sprayed the bottom a light gray and used it to shade the back and sides of the benches. I then used Minitaire Lagoon Blue (very close to a generic sky blue but a tad darker) for the details and then sprayed variations of white to give it a feel of shifting colors on the tables and benches. Here's the giant MAS benches. I did these by painting the blue pretty strong, reclaiming where I wanted too then fading the blue with several passes of a light spray of white.
Willen
Looking very good MS! Those benches are TAG sized, that's all I will mix some more putty and see about the tail. Not terribly excited about sculpting a large piece, but it is true challenging yourself is the best way to learn anything.
Willen
Sorry for those of you wanting me to take up sculpting, but this happened: IMHO, this is a bad-elf Szalamandra now! So excited! Replaced the "meh" HMC on the left arm thanks to a gatling piece from a hover bike thanks to Jasper's generosity, and I am in the process of getting the right-arm flamethrower more... flamethrower-y like. It is a shame I don't have any kind of nice techno arm for the side sockets. I assume this is a model from before that was standard in Corvus Belli... but as per the fluff it should have Pilot arms and the sockets for the pill-like things are mostly in the correct position... but I don't have arms... unless I butcher some minis. I will probably start sculpting blank areas that need servo-muscle fiber (due to the extreme re-positioning tonight while watching the all-star game Edited February 16, 2015 by Willen
MonkeySloth
That looks good. I've never cared for the weapons on this sculpt so swapping them is a good idea.
Willen
That looks good. I've never cared for the weapons on this sculpt so swapping them is a good idea. Exactly. The most powerful weapon platform in the Nomad nation deserved a bigger gun
MonkeySloth
I agree. True it's one of the older sculpts still for sale but that doesn't mean a simple weapon swap doesn't take it from outdated to pretty nice.
chaoshead
Nice, I Assume you polished this mini some how, it is very shiny. I do like the conversion. I can't really tell how far forward it leans but...I think if you had it standing on a sloped base so that it was in more of an upright pose you may not have to worry about it tipping forward due to being front heavy. I've got sideviews for you: The body was treated with the dremel and a brass brush, to reveal surface pitting and correct it if needed (yes, it is needed). I was thinking a bit along the lines of what you suggest... like a torn piece of pavement sloping upwards slightly and to its right side, so that the CG is a little more centered on the base and the leg (a lot of the upper weight will go as moment on the supporting feet). The tail helped, I will tell you that... and the huge addition to the feet arm was a help as well.
