MonkeySloth
So help me with some paint schemes for my buildings. I'm really torn between going clean and white for things or worn down and dirty. Maybe a mix as I think the Zen terrain habs will look good sort dirty while the zen landing pad and systema stuff as clean--which means I'll have to have a mixed board until I can get enough to do both styles. Though, to be honest, I think that all but the heli pad could work as a dirty paint up. Here's the zen stacked three high ] and 8 high (I would love to have a bunch like with some vertical signs ] This is a bar that's coming out next month that the habs can stack on. Am planning on getting it ] And the systema set up that I should have next week ] ] Here's the heli pad Thoughts? If I go white it will probably be shaded with blues. Not sure what gray colors to use if I went dirty. I'd really like something that the neon color of signs would look very start against. I'm going to try and skim through a bunch of concept art stuff this next week to see what I can find but I'm curious as to what others would think.
chaoshead
Yep, that was/is my biggest problem when painting sci-fi terrain. My mind blanks most of the time when trying to come up with something other than clean white and chrome OR a dirty very weathered scheme. In the end I went with a black/grey/white zenithal paint scheme that I think works fairly well with the sci-fi vibe of things. I plan on adding a dash of color here and there and some weathering but all in all I believe that I will stick to what I have.
CashWiley
Maybe try for something out of the Fallout games for weathered or Deus Ex for clean.
ungoreatstefan
I would look to Blade Runner for inspiration, I think that maybe even the helipad should be "dirty" but cleaner than the other buildings.
Werkrobotwerk
I'd say it kind of depends on what world you want this to be on and who are the inhabitants.
Willen
I think you kinda need to think about going either dark, or light. I do not like strong bright colors in housing, but splashes of orange, deep red, yellow, blue, etc help balance greys and whites and stuff. So I do not have a lot of advise TBH, as far as a "scheme" goes. As Werkrobotwerk said, if you can pitcure people living there, and the materials, and the enviroment, you can surely find a scheme that works for you! MonkeySloth
I think I've got a pretty good base idea of what I want to do know. Spent some time Friday and today airbrushing and I've been playing around with a base color scheme. I finished up a bunch of underground laser stuff, the pool tables, console, mainframe and server rack. That leaves vending machines, video games and atms left. Going to be going different on those last few (not gray scale) so I've only started to prime them. Really like how the tables and console turned out. I've done a bit of brush work on these, edging highlights and smaller detail, and the wood on the tables ended up being a bit darker then planned but I'm so far still limiting myself to the badger paints for now so my selection wasn't as good as I'd like on the browns\tans. The severs, on the left, are a bit rough as I was getting warmed up. Probably should have masked some things but over all I think the main frame (to the right) turned out great. So the grays you see here is what I'm thinking for my buildings. Right now the agenda is finish up the underground laser objectives and scatter and then touch up the planters (and finish the pool ones) then I think I'll move on to the buildings.
Willen
Looks like you are having fun with the a/b, nice! Everything is ace, but I am loving those pool tables...
MonkeySloth
Finally got into my bones. The Sci-fi stuff is great quality as the shipping container and dumpster are very hard PVC. They should paint up very well and I'm interested to see their price compared to MDF options once they hit retail. The weapon crate is a tad disappointing after seeing the dumpster (which has a hinged lid) as it's hollow and doesn't have a bottom as it would have been sweet to have that hinged as well. The barriers look nice until you put them next to some resin SWM ones then they just stand out as being too smooth to be concrete. However, I suspect they're going to be much more affordable. The police box is, as I expected, not Tardis sized but just generic phone booth sized. It needs to be about 50% bigger to match the Tardis. Need to think of a stencil I can make for the shipping container. Edited February 25, 2015 by MonkeySloth
Werkrobotwerk
Don't forget the alien console, which makes a pretty good objective marker.

Chip away at a corner, insert a paper clip or something as a rod and it's now broken and decayed. Stab holes and paint blast marks and you have gun fire. Your mainframe turned out awesome. Was that something you constructed?
MonkeySloth
No, these items are brittle bones. There's a good chance of them snapping if you try and cut them. I could break the dumpster lid in half without much effort. The mainframe is from Underground lasers. It comes with the servers and terminal. Also someone posted a tutorial of making holo ads with LED garden lights on the infinity forums. Pretty cool looking: http://infinitytheforums.com/forum/index.php?/topic/28083-illuminated-circular-street-advertisments-from-£1-solar-lights/ Edited February 25, 2015 by MonkeySloth
pcktlnt
That's disappointing to hear about the sci-fi bones. I was thinking of procuring some.
MonkeySloth
I actually prefer it this way. Much closer to HPS plastic.
