Its been a fun July 4th.

Everyone left me alone ROFL.

I have a party to go to tomorrow, and that is crawling distance from my home if needs be.

I prepped a magnificent pot of chili (beans and beef, and chocolate).

Sorry I do taste NOT heat !

After all that prep work I was in the mood, so I went to work on a Mounted Sir Balyne.

So I cleaned him up, washed, and prepped him in black primer.

Here is his lordship on his mount !

WITH HIS BATTLE MACE.. I'm tired of bendable lances.

Oh, my previous entry on prior page is a jay infomercial about how I clean my mini's.

I'm thinking purple shadows, blue base, light blue highlights, black shield with gold stars.

Gun Metal armor and helm, with gold edging on the Helm.

Mace will be lined in black ink, gunmetal gray, mahogany handle maybe ?

(all of which are subject to change on a whim)..ROFL

The process of painting has begun.

I just put two layers of Burgandy wine on the horse cloths.

Really like how that is showing up.

It will get darker with layers...but a nice start !

Looking good so far as always!

Re: your chili - I'm glad you go for taste, not heat! I typically turn my nose up at chili, as I don't particularly care for the taste of unending torture.  ::P: Yours sounds really interesting though!

Wow, you've been quite productive these past few weeks. Looks like you have enough knights to actually have your own kingdom.

Thank you !

I've been having a lot of fun painting these particular mini's.

When you mentioned the "Kingdom" I spoke with Arthur about taking the boys out for a ride,

so they trotted through the castle so I could get a group photo.

So, here's Arthur minus Mounted Sir Balyne (he's getting his armor painted at the moment).

:upside:

Oh, and thanks for giving me a reason to use the Dwarvenite walls.

First time I have had a reason to use them !

Wet on Wet mixing to get closer to the color I am looking for.

Various shades of purple and burgandy wine, with a touch of white linen.

Its getting there.

It certainly is! Looking very regal! I'm glad you went with different colour schemes for each one, it really makes them all pop, yet you've painted them in such a style that they still go together very well.

Got so time to do some more painting today.

Trip to farmer's market was quick.

Was too crowded and hot (plus the fishmarket was upwind today).

Folks weren't lingering..ROFL.

Here is some shading, shadows, and blues on the Mounted Sir Balyne.

Details and some serious HIGH highlighting remain to be done.

I'm having a lot of fun picking out the dark shadows in purple/dark blue.

Finally, I didn't like one of the last photos and I swapped out the blue background for a black cloth.

Got the color's correctly this time.

Using this new cellphone is a bit tricky... but this photo shows things much better !

This shows the mini's more dynamic coloring..

I really like the color scheme that's coming together on this most recent knight. The group shot is fantastic - this would make a great display setup!

looks like you are knocking out some good work.  If you want to level it up, smoothness is your next goal.  soften the transitions between colors, ideally you shouldn't be able to see any transitions at all.  Keep at it, you are improving really quick.  Just don't burn out.  Keep it fun so that you keep painting, so don't get bogged down unless you are enjoying it.

Was able to work some more on Sir Balyne..

I forget sometimes how small this 28mm mini really is.

Here is what he looks like now; after some wet on wet, and color additions.

2020 has-been rough on everyone but some people have had it rougher than others.  A friend of mine is disabled and has had a really hard time just trying to keep basic necessities done.

I thought I would send her a little friend who's got simpler an cuter problems. Purple is her favorite color.  He goes out in the mail on Monday

      Hope you like him too...

Back when the Bones 4 Kickstarter was running, when the Giant Rhinoceros Beetle was revealed in the Fan Favorites set, someone posted this photo of a Frog riding a Beetle to the Enthusiasm Thread, and I knew it was a conversion I would eventually want to try.  I have an extensive Frog Army, and I wanted such a figure to be a Leader or Hero for my forces.

I had the pieces I needed at hand; the Bones Black "Giant Rhinoceros Beetle", and my rider - for which i  had decided to use the Bones "Mudcroak" Squog figure.

As I looked at Mudcroak, I knew I would have to separate him from his base, but I knew there was no way I could remove all those little toes from the base without damaging them.  So, right off the bat I made the decision to just remove his feet along with the base, with the plan that I would then resculpted them with greenstuff directly onto the beetle's back once I had the frog glued in place.

Here's a test fit, with the frog held in place with blue-tac.

      That's all for right now.

Ok, this may have been asked before and I have a terrible memory and I could not find a straight answer in the FAQ.

The white material vs the slightly less white material (not to be confused with bones black)
I have a what is essentially a bucket of bones miniatures from all 4 kickstarters.  Im a slow painter.
I decided to pick a few out to paint.  I painted Almaran the gold and noticed his head was deformed.  replaced it
Next I tried Durok the dwarf ranger and I noticed his right side did not mold correctly.  Nothing I could do about it but its fine not complaining.
Ive noticed most of my bones 4 that had the new grey material have not had these sort of issues.
I would show pics but I dont wanna...

My question is has this issue been fixed for the older bones miniatures,  Are they being cast in this new grey material?

This was a quick, and fun, paint - I have a soft spot for the translucent figures - painted up as a 'gift' from an NPC to my players. Just open the box for help....
