Fair, and true. If you've never done that kind of manipulation, it can be more than a little tricksy. Though knowing the competition, anything that would give me an advantage might narrow the odds down from 'insurmountable' to 'nigh impossible', or maybe even as close as 'not bloody likely'  :;):

On that note, after the contest, if anyone wants me to photoshop their entry onto the background for fun, I'm game for playing around with pictures.

@Anne Single. Just for simplicities sake if nothing else.

@shadowraven I'd love to see photoshopped ones which is why it pains me to say otherwise, but I've got to try and be fair for those that can't do it. Having one in your showoff thread is perfectly acceptable as the judges don't look at those.

GW did the colored lighting thing when they rebooted White Dwarf (not this one, the last one). As a painter, I kind of hate that as it kills the enjoyment of the paint job. You just can't appreciate a painted mini without a neutral light source (warm or cool ok, red...not so much). As an artist, I can see how it looks cool, but it drove me to distraction. As you say with photoshopping, something cool for the WIP thread or your own Show Off/blog, but for a contest, the paint job should be judged, not the lighting. I'll leave off my rant about the trend of 'stark lighting' casting real shadows that obscure painted shadows. Woops I ranted about it. Blah.

I agree with everything Cash said above ^

Painting contests should be judged on painting alone, not by tricks of lighting or photo-shopping images into the picture.

Don't worry about your "rant" Cash, everyone is entitled to their opinion, I just happen to agree with you! :upside:
